WINDSOR SMALLBLOCK TALK

Recommended Posts

Hence the reason for my question, you changed the cam which dictates firing order. So is this the same as a late or early Windsor?
87/88 was supposed to be the change over year, basically if it's a roller cam engine it should have the 351 firing order

I have a copy of the Ford F-truck spare parts manual...

It's over 5,000pages long.

Ford had so many small variations and options, within the one family of vehicles, it's mind boggling.
There are 7-8 engine options alone!

On top of that, the ones which came to Australia, seem to have small idiosyncrasies which vary from the US versions.

Our F-trucks are about 90% the same, but Ford mixed and matched small parts to suit our market -

some suspension bushes, engine accessory parts and so on.

(not even counting the RHD dash configuration, with Falcon steering column)

It's extremely time consuming, piecing the puzzle together - working out the correct parts to get.

I've easily spent over 4hrs, attempting to work out the correct timing cover/water pump, and which bolts go in which locations.
I still need to review the bolts again, before ordering anything.

They seem to use part Mustang, part Thunderbird, part something else - there are no 'off the shelf' bolt kits to suit the non-serpentine, clockwise water pump, 302 EFI Windsor f-truck timing covers.

From the parts manual - the non-serpentine 302 EFI's, use 7 different length bolts in varying quantities, on the pump/timing cover alone. :o

GERG was right these engines are big,no wonder so many go the smaller roller block as it is so light and wack a set of alloys on it.
I think i have decoded the block she is a 1994 roller 351w block also rods are very long and grand canyon pistons std bore too623395dd396fea89a93be32a1eb37887.jpgece1000d47c438286a0be6bee5515bf7.jpga37353ed2dec38a241580ef2c2cfe582.jpg

Rods are similar length to 302Cs, maybe a tad shorter.

Blocks are big but assembled engines are still lighter than a Clevo by 20 kg and heavier than a 302W by the same amount

Nice score F4TE is a roller 351 block. Actually hard to come by, they also split pretty easy just like the 5.0 block.

Build a 393 with some alloy heads.

302s went from 28 to 50 oz after the early 80s. 351s were always 28, start to finish

Much love for a windsor.
