13 posts in this topic

Thought it was time to start a build thread. This will be quite a slow build due soley based on money.

Plans are:

Running gear-

-Built Barra

- Unsure of turbo yet (Big enough for 500kw)

-Big fuel system running flex fuel (98 or E85)

-Haltech Elite 2500

-C4 or Turbo 400 (May be transbraked)

- 9inch with a 4link

Interior-

-XD Dash

- XR6 seats

-Custom centre console

-Custom Door cards

Exterior-

- XD Front

- XD Rear

-Unsure of rims yet

-Running on coilovers

Got given the car about a year ago from my old man, has an original 115k on the carby fed crossflow. After a few tweaks on the carby and a bit of 98 we had it running after it sitting for over 8 years or so.

Got a donor XD to supply the parts I wanted to change over (Front end, Dash, Rear End, Bumpers etc)
Unfortunately this Falcon had way too much terminal cancer and was way to far gone to repair398eef369a321182db51dec56fc116a7.jpgc5eeff6cc4a03387532b124ddb42ad38.jpg

Since the XF and XD headlight brackets were different had to removed the welded XF brackets. 2 spot welds drilled out and the drivers side was off. Passenger side was a bit different and had enough welds to hold the car together. So the grinder came out to slowly cut it off.
The XD brackets had the u-clips that were replaced with rivnuts and bolted on. Rest of the holes will be filled when the engine comes out and engine bay smoothed out. f191576d9410389675f188ecb6df17ae.jpgddefb25df84e04ed461cc76eda2a96e9.jpg76cc5a550ccf30f76b93c2d45e2a46ec.jpg45e4a5c007f05b011506490251070e36.jpgc81cbf35206445fb7cdbd324b4599f75.jpg48d5734b8a86e817b5d58c91639b1453.jpga2a08a1e572aeba416b72c9cb615b469.jpg44f16f9bf1998d9e8b90b81d989c61ee.jpg

Most of the front just mocked up to make sure it all fits, a XD top radiator support will need to be stiched in to properly mount the grill. Have sourced one already and will be done in the next couple weeks.

Rear is gonna be a but harder to do but nothing to challenging94d12f58d5c798a0367f8336b7e80a00.jpg

Nice work, mate.  Always had a soft spot for XD's. Best looking shoebox car, IMHO.
Thanks mate, yeah me too which is why this is getting all the XD treatment. Would've loved to start with a XD but very hard to find one in decent condition around my area. Plus I got the cars for free, so far it's cost me a day car trailer hire.
