CLEVELAND ENGINE TALK

Recommended Posts

Measure them both up before you machine them, and let us know the difference, mate. Look like 1-2 mm. (.040 - .080" in old man language)

new ones size 16.8mm

Proper size 14.2mm

So skimmed off 2.6mm. Some turned out a bit smaller by 0.2mm (lathe isn't great, operator less so). No dramas as the hyd lifters will take it up.

Hey check this out,i found this by accident,an interview with steve masterton about how by the end of 84 they had there 7500rpm clevo front running the pack, and next year the rules are changing so he is back to square 1,even at amaroo park which was a tiny circuit the xe looks sleek and very fast, listen to dick jonsons clevo when they talk to him live, and check the masterton engine at the begining of the video.

Great looking car, sounds glorious too. Looks like Dicky had trouble getting power down out of corners, but he had it sorted by Bathurst (should have won)

The twin Webber setup was common on many Group C V8s, Holdens had them as well pretty early on. The ruling was that the number of Venturi could not change from standard so they all did what all race teams do and interpret the rules to the maximum advantage. Twin 48s probably breathe better than a single double pumper and at the time, were able to be tuned for racing more easily than Holleys. Holdens also used downdrafts as well as side-drafts, depending on the team.

Paint job came out well i spend about 1hr masking up and then after final coat take all tape off and use thinners and rag to wipe off any overspray if any at all,we might even put the cam in later as its easy to guide it in from underneath with no crank in the way00179a9e1687ad1ac4d993d6cb0ba7fa.jpg5ab166b373021c041b93e5f582e30c17.jpge78209d6f9ab99d1b465467a74daed9a.jpg37981ceafd3ac193a1235235415da0bf.jpg8fafd9a6ab7438931e6ee32ffce45ced.jpg9b15afdccd830f8dd56c89f3defc9a24.jpg

Cool stuff. Yeah, those original Morse chains are fine for stock builds, and super quiet. Not that you'll hear it over the 400. LOL.
Finally got all 8 in ,looking good i really to buy myself a better ring compressor the one with the squeeze handle i reckonae18d55982d92951f5b0327f2e6e3ca6.jpgea2459e00602857e3e4ba772e9b20fc7.jpg

Every now and then you find something you have never seen b4 on a clevo here is the normal brass tube size but the 1980 351m block tube size is much bigger,i checked my other 400 1972 block and it has the std size so at least i can use it7be5bd0404479e8f575b3cb1d5df7e75.jpg3af01895c00904d40862865faac8123e.jpg

Clevo's had 2 sizes didn't they..??   Original ones were straight tube, and a stepped tube.?
There is a 3/4 stepped tube that goes into the w/pump on some windsor and cleveland i bet ford just upped the size on this later model block but finding one is proving difficult .
