yes these days a 429 is quite cool ,and with all the aftermarket gear available would shit on a stock 460,429/460 use the same rods ,just the piston is a bit taller to make up the difference, hence smaller stroke, back in the day nobody would throw money at a stock 429 ,cause the boss 429 and cobra jet was available in numbers, but nowadays most stroke a 460 to 545 or bigger, there is a whole new world out there of big block gear,as we only ever had the smaller cousins.

I have heard that wherever a Windsor or Clevo will go, a 429/460 will slot in, mounts and all. Whether or not the actual mounts are the same, I dunno, but from XA onwards, big blocks are a bolt-in job (again from what I remember someone saying years ago)

ahh ok im talking about the actual motor mounts, but yes a 460 will bolt in where a clevo or windsor fits, and even a aftermarket choice of pre fabbed headers and xy/xa 460 engine mounts are available off the shelf ,one thing i have noticed a lot of 460 xy mounts for sale on marketplace or e bay must have been the in thing at one point, pity no such exhaust for a 400 is available, mods are needed, been there done that.

Yeah, was on  my bucket list of engines. Always wanted a 427/429 or 460. But things happen, cars get sold, etc etc.  No point buying one now, would make the XP sooooooo front heavy. LMAO.  Ally intake and heads on 460 would make them about the same weight as a Clevo I reckon. So, perfect for the Nugget.. 🤔

by the numbers it could be anything from a 1971 to 1978 460,but with manifold heads n block matching looks like its a 73 or 74 460,there is 2 nice rusty cranks as well, maybe 1 of them could be a 429 i will check later.

After a few hrs using power tools sanding off surface rust it's starting to look ok,also 2 cranks,1 cover,1 broken timing cover and a factory sump, when homeboy dropped it off this morning I said hey where is the main caps ? He said fark I left em at home with other stuff to go with it but all is good he is coming down from Toowoomba in 3 weeks time.3f5c0d3e3c72e7fc87b667671d857830.jpgdfe9daa8570bfc12a9d797040c3e6c30.jpgf3ec14e050d019911fd4747f90dac36e.jpg29dd298e3d29d4eb632d4b4b946bfc81.jpg64a08ef3f159b37770b8fa4f8d5b72f7.jpg

doing plenty of reading ,and turns out the exhaust side of the 460 head is very poor flow, after 1972 ford re designed the head but still wasnt that good,my heads are 73 or 74 and are the larger chamber, gerg you were right they are very similar to a 2v cleveland head.

i will give the block a few more cleans ,then take it down to the machine shop and get it tanked and get ol m8 to sus it out it stands atm at 030 so the guy told me ,but i measured it up and looks std to me with some ware ,std bore is 4.360 and my readings flutuated between that and 4.370ish,came with no rods or pistons ,also 060 overbore is fine with many going 090 and 120 over.

It could just be a standard worn bore with the ridges shaved to get the pistons out. I hope she cleans up nice, that's a lot of rust in there

Exhaust side is choked with a hump but inlet side is massive, same as manifold,I also wire brushed the mains on both cranks just to get a idea on size and the both measure up at around 3.000 which is the STD size I haven't checked the big ends yet but guessing it's STD.7b2314369da3495eb8500e54739c8054.jpg82a11f7fa00c620ea2d883102b29315c.jpg5d8d582ef812998f5c5c4c9b7441712d.jpga2a038828ad87d75f93077ae4069292b.jpg27926bee7ceb4c5ef1a96accdb8ecbb5.jpg7438ec6bdca014b6c1453daa6f1b35ea.jpg63f5b67f8614d0f9b7b23b25945340dd.jpgf6a6480e6065309481da131a8c49b1a7.jpg

Yeah I dunno, if you grind that hump out, it actually looks decent. The inlets might look big, but the shape doesn't look great (that's what she said). I reckon the inlets are the restriction here. It looks typically Ford of that era, with a ramp up on the floor and a sharp turn before the throat. Pretty much just 2V Clevos but slightly scaled up.

Yeah true, but........... truck engine.

Pull a house.

10:1 pistons, lazy 400HP.
Knowing full well these cranks are farked unless throw $350 at em each to clean up I just needed to see what size they were and there might be some hope for this one it's STD mains 3.000 and 2.500 rod so maybe a 20/20 would clean up nice once the rust is gone.i see it says 2yab189d005b07f3128ca27a532c01bf1c97.jpgaf15832c1da3042f561830dfde26c396.jpgfff4f2b73adacbe30fe9e5cd279c5bb0.jpg

hey is it ok to get them sand blasted cause they are gunna get milled anyway on the journals,or some sort of media ?
Best to blast them first, then get them ground. No good messing your nicely ground journals up with a blasted finish

I just google it and some say don't get it bead blasted cause bits of glass might stay in there but surely you would wash the crank several times b4 final assembly I think sand blasting will be fine

Just looking at stroker cranks and stroke kits to 545 c.i. there is a million different kits available it's very confusing, seems about $2500 is the cheapest version with 4.500 stroke, but you get everything. 545 c.i is the biggest a STD block can take it seems

You wouldn't think it's the same block after I spent all day on it ,turns out it is STD bore with plenty of ware 4.374 is the largest bore so she has done a lot of miles 6db24710de19b1bf46b2cd0a32184464.jpgb2b1fabd64c27001b7ae16cc6992c228.jpga2d6ac01d71a27c1f0d1e255f296debc.jpg70a32334dab44d956894b2ea89c087de.jpg

Awesome.

I will take it down to the machine shop and get him to take out the old cam bearings and hot tank it,plus dip it in a rust solution tank made of citrus or something as that will clean it up even better .
