gerg 10,871 Posted September 18, 2021 Good thing about it being pre-75 is it's guaranteed to be a 400 and not a 351M (unless someone's done a dirty crank swap in the past)Sent from my CPH1920 using Tapatalk 3 CHESTNUTXE, burnnotice1000 and Outback Jack reacted to this

CHESTNUTXE 7,308 Posted September 18, 2021 i started pulling it down,no dramas so far, also has this yellow top coil ? could be factory, looks ancient. 1 Outback Jack reacted to this
gerg 10,871 Posted September 18, 2021 Could that be an old Accel? US Fords would have had a Motorcraft coil, Aussie ones Bosch.Sent from my CPH1920 using Tapatalk 3 burnnotice1000, CHESTNUTXE and Outback Jack reacted to this
ZKFairlane 235 Posted September 18, 2021 It's the original autolite coil that the motor was built with. 4 gerg, CHESTNUTXE, Outback Jack and 1 other reacted to this

burnnotice1000 588 Posted September 18, 2021 should have just stuck some oil in it and fired it up. Nah it deserves a strip down and clean up tomorrow will continue on and gut it I reckon it's STD bore and really only bought it for the crank and rods for my other engine as ordering them from the states would have cost about $900 on USA e bay maybe more because posting a crank weighs heaps and just not worth it,will just sell the block if it's STD bore ,heads too, manifold ain't worth anythingSent from my SM-A125F using Tapatalk 4 gerg, CHESTNUTXE, deankxf and 1 other reacted to this

Same bearing size, the only difference I think is something to do with the snout where the timing gear goes?Sent from my CPH1920 using Tapatalk 2 CHESTNUTXE and burnnotice1000 reacted to this

gerg 10,871 Posted September 19, 2021 That's right, forgot about Dearborn. So that's at least 4 casting plants they had back then... Windsor is straight across the river from Dearborn, but in Canada.Sent from my CPH1920 using Tapatalk 1 burnnotice1000 reacted to this

RM351 148 Posted September 24, 2021 I've been unlucky when it came to buying a 400. Purchased 2 over the years, the first one I went the trouble of getting from the US via ebay. At that time the aussie dollar was over the 90 US cent mark. Engine was fine except on hot days, it was bored 60 thou. 2nd one I bought it here, came out of a '71 Galaxie with a C6 and I currently have. This one is already 40 thou and needs a rebore, not going to bother. Gave it a hone but as you can see it ain't enough. 2 burnnotice1000 and Outback Jack reacted to this

I've come across quite a few in the last year or so I like em ,I see that block is the DIF casting ,very common in Australia as most of them came out of galaxy's ect,a few show up out of 4x4 s and f trucks like the CF block I just rebuiltSent from my SM-A125F using Tapatalk 3 1 gerg, Outback Jack, CHESTNUTXE and 1 other reacted to this

CHESTNUTXE 7,308 Posted October 7, 2021 The 400 reco engine sold last night,$4000,picking up saturday, that facebook marketplace is 1000 times better than e bay,in just 2 days i had 2000 looks instead of 50 looks for 7 days on e bay,now have some cash to look at some wheels for my own 400 engine, but slim pickings out there ,i hope i can snag something that is not advertised, prefer xe sedan roller . 3 Outback Jack, deankxf and gerg reacted to this
