A cheap molasses tank would be one of the plastic water/chemical tanks that hold a cubic metre. Would fit a couple blocks in at the same time. If you cut the top off in the right way and you have a lid to cut down evaporation.

Don't leave it in too long though or it could be like this ^^
Ok lets start the stripdown of what appears to be a black block that turns freely and has typical xd xe v8 water neck.663fc99c89d040b4e46be0087c188592.jpg410fff3890c83c713164849b6e674434.jpg

XC had that neck also didn't it, related to the thermoquad?
Yes correct and my thoughts of a black block have now turned blue block ,this engine has been rebuilt and all bolts coming off easy and they were perfect on torque settings ,shes a 302c and in good cond inside even cam looks reuseable maybe , its very dirty on the outside but inside its a gem ,now onto if its had pistons and bearings my gut feeling is yes382e6b6e2ef81591f488b765f9d57a3c.jpg83c6f948700835eb50015c8ae9c98b67.jpg437937679e1f3d4632150464cfc60b24.jpg52dbf0814f4e3a61bce493eead24b5c7.jpgf206daa72be2c332a1a66ef407cfe8d7.jpg5f680471068f50ae6ba445767856a628.jpg0002092e82a3a906ccc7a23e74cf9f52.jpg

ok i put a solid day in and end of it got the block looking a lot cleaner for sure ,turned out this one was 10/10 bearings and new pistons,so puts it as a candidate for re co ,also had a double chain, turns out its a 1973 block and here i was thinking a black block.

What a mess to get to the std bore block it also had std factory bearings and timing chain , also good news the crank is quite up to a polish for the 302c rebuild18c53be266d2555046efa301e659b25b.jpg012799c8a0f82e22bce5eb42a341dd18.jpg
