CHESTNUTXE 7,304 Posted February 4, 2018 I just got home from picking up this cortina engine but i reckon its a bit of a jigsaw engine, lets sus it out.from what i can first see its a 84da block with c2 head, but has xe dizzy stlye,or could possibly be a leaded 84 xf engine,it also has 82da manifold,or this could be the year the first cast numbers were done ,and a very large or bigger than mine water pump pulley,it also has a jg23 engine code, mounts could be f100 ?? not sure but chime on in with what they are ,so lets put it on the stand and start to ripp it down. deankxf 20,279 Posted February 4, 2018 Engine mount rubber looks like xr falcon... not sure about the bracket. .. @Thom would probably know more as he would have had to mix n match for the xp 1 CHESTNUTXE reacted to this

Thom would probably know more as he would have had to mix n match for the xpYour right on the engine mounts they are xr/xt, was this engine In an early falcon? Having those mounts and the early water pump make me think so as the clutch fan water pump will hit the radiator in an early bird, and the bigger pulley makes sense for a car with 3.5s (most early falcon sedans had 3.5s with xp Fairmont having 3.2s and utes having 4.11s) and no overdrive you want to slow the water pump down at cruise speeds to stop it from cavitating the water, you may find the water pump pulley is from a pre xflow (that's where I got mine from an xa pre xflow 250) to help keep it cool on the highway 2 CHESTNUTXE and gerg reacted to this

Ando81 2,949 Posted February 4, 2018 I’ve been told it’s pretty common to see them crack through there as there isn’t much meat to hold it all together.

CHESTNUTXE 7,304 Posted February 4, 2018 i will check the main size tomorrow ,then see if the crank needs a linish/polish ol,m8 does it for $50,also buy some kero and degreaser, then start my cleaning process.
ando76 4,354 Posted February 4, 2018 It is a crack. Very common to have them crack there. It's not an issue tho and will work fine. If it is an unmachined c2 it should cc at 42cc, but could be less if it's had a hair cut. No evidence of anyone laying the chamber walls back so I'd say it will be 42cc or less. 3 matt_lamb_160, gerg and Valvebouncer reacted to this
