Hi

Was wondering what's the difference in fuel usage is between the ef 6 cyl and v8 std 302 and xr8.

Because may put in a v8 if it can be done for right price and wondered what the std 302 and xr8 in the ef/el is like on fuel compared to the 6 cyl. How much power do they have.

With the el2 185kw is there a difference in k frame strength or they same as the ef/el k frame.

Because the el2 is really a ef/el body and they say only upto 170kw in a ef. So would there be engineering problems if putting a 185kw xr8 el2 engine in a ef as they're same body. Would you only just put the stuff on and go swap engine numbers at rego office?

Also guess you could use a au block with the el ecu and wiring and distributor is that right.

also could you fit a diesel ford engine to a ef without engineering long as its no more kw than a ef el can have at most and you use ef el mounts and it bolts in like a ef engine

Any help with what to do would be good

Thanks 😊😉

A lot to answer there but let's start from the start:

The V8 has more torque down low, but is a bit disappointing up top without some head work. Popular mods are: GT40P heads, 65mm throttle body and "Cobra" intake. Standard cam is pretty good. Heads are where the power is. Exhausts are restrictive, so first thing to do is headers, twin cats & twin 2-1/2 before the diff, then into 3" single to the back.

V8 economy: not great. Around town, expect 15L/100, maybe 12 highway if you go really easy.

The 6 cyl is loads better on fuel. Expect 12 around town, down into the 9s on the open road. My EF used to get 11 around town and got into the 8s on a trip.

The 6 is much cheaper and easier to get power out of initially, but going all-out isn't worth it. Build an XR6 spec engine with a little extra and it will be a snappy performer. Or shove some boost in, much easier than on a V8.

Some perspective: the EB XR6 was quicker to 100km/h than the 8 (mainly due to gearing) but still respectable. It also handled better with more even balance.

Any engine not offered by the manufacturer as an option requires engineering, regardless of displacement or power output. If your logic did actually apply, you could put a 1934 flathead in an FGX because it only displaces 3.6 litres or whatever, but emissions is a big part of it too.

something not considered here is..
sell the 6cyl and buy a V8 car.. cheaper, easier, no mods..

drive both, as Gerg said above the 6 can be quicker.. i drove a EBXR6 and an EBXR8 and bought the 6 because the XR8 felt slow... in hindsight, the V8 sounded better..

a diesel falcon would be interesting.. is it worth the effort/cost?

Hi

just a question

Will a 97 series one el v8 fairmont dash harness plug into a series 2 el xr8 engine bay harness and body harness or will it only plug into and work with a series one el v8/xr8

will the ef climate control and trip computer with black buttons work on a el v8 fairmont dash harness

thanks for any help
