toploader vs c4 auto

Recommended Posts

hey people,

im going to be putting a 393 clevo in my xw

its about 500hp at the crank

I have a toploader and c4 auto box at home

im not sure which way to go as its mainly a cruiser and maybe the odd hill climb

any thoughts? pros and cons?

Being a manual guy, it would be the loader for me. Hill climbs will be more fun rowing the gears yourself. True they can be a bit of a tractor box but a lot of that is down to what shifter you use and keeping the linkages adjusted and lubed properly.

An old trick that I was told years ago is you drill a few tiny holes all around the friction surface on the syncros to help get the oil out, helps speed up shifts.

I jus changed over to a C4 from a toploader mate.. I've got a 393ci 600hp n wouldn't be real cruiser friendly with a manual - depends what u like I guess but with big cam n horsepower I def think auto.. took me ages to change over
