whats the process to stop it moving from welding?
do you choose pipes that can be fully welded last and do the others first start to finish or is there a certain method?

Well yeah they move heaps basically any way and the flanges allways need machining , it will get clamped to a big heavy plate with it bowed backwards slightly , then yeah weld the hard ones first , cut whole runners off if needed to get to welds , then the easy ones . Then i put it in the mill and run a fly cutter over the flanges .

New turbo manifold on .
Comes up on the stall better , but I think the cars lost power with the smaller pipes

Also had my gas throttle rebuilt and resized to 510

Cars driving much better now , and I'll run it up on the dyno again this week and see what the end result was .

I have upped the boost to 14psi so it should go over the 300kw mark .

who did the gas research rebuild?  i'm half tempted to use one on My gemini next(or impco)

300rwkw sounds like plenty, it's what most of the barra turbo BAs etc got to early on and were fun in the heavier car.

i just noticed, looks like you are using the headlight brackets to mount the intercooler... they are barely adequate for the headlights. seen plenty cracked off from what i assume is work hardening from vibration

Tunnel vision rebuilt my throttle body .

It's also supported off the bottom to the front chassis , it doesn't need the top one really because the pipes hold it , but it has this one , should beef the headlights up if you think about it ?

yep, should help the headlights.. good thinking.
good to hear tunnel vision are still playing with the old stuff.

Yeah he did ask me why I didn't go efi .. now I've got it all pretty sorted i think I probably should of .. it's been a lot of hours of messing around to get it all to run correctly , but it had been something I always wanted todo .

New turbo manifold review .

Got a few runs on the dyno , the car dropped 50hp on 12psi , but performed so much better , boost comes on quickly , the power curves look spot on and every time we upped the boost it would come on earlier .

Ended up making 380hp at 17psi , but the alternator died and we had a little back fire at like 6,500 and it collapsed a lifter , new lifter and another alternator and ill head back for another run .

Sorry am I reading that the backfire caused the lifter to collapse, or are they unrelated?

Goes to show that less is sometimes more. Glad that the new manifold lived up to expectations. Makes all the work seem worth it

Yeah the back fire killed the lifter , I have another complete rocker gear to sort it out but .

Yeah I'm really happy with how it's performing now , hopefully it transfers to some decent 1/4 mile times

heading to calder this Friday for a shakedown run?

Nah I don't think so , Calder has been getting to packed out , it's not worth the entry fee to get one or two passes in . Just send it on Monday for a week of test and tuning

Slight update from drag challenge

I ended up getting through the week , struggled a little on the first two days , turns out I had a bad engine earth and the msd wasn't working properly.

Ran a slowest time of 13.1
Then after I fixed the earth went onto a 8.00 on the 8th and then consistent 11.9s until I turned the boost up on the last day and would have gone about 11.7 but they only ran times to 1000ft at Calder for our class .
Awesome event , i did hurt the motor a little bit with a few backfires before I fixed the engine earth and it's got some blow by now but did keep going all week and got faster and faster as the days went on with some better launches , also drove us home again . I'll pull it out after Xmas and go over it again then onto next years prep , a roll cage and hopefully into the 10s

Woo! well done

didn't spot you in the live feed shows, i watched a few of them too.

how did you find the process? did you only do one run at each track and get out of there?

did you get much time to chat to others on the challenge?

looks like a heap of fun if nothing breaks

I got to see a few people on the road , didn't really see ants or rob they move on pretty early .
