Spring height , shock length

Recommended Posts

Hey all,,

Have a set of kings kffl-0 springs in my ute , " running 17's" which give a nice ride height , no binding ,,tas country roads ,,etc ,,

With what i think is stock shock length,,

Question is this ,,

Thinking on the same springs for an fe LTD " not too low ,,but well noticable " ,, and am looking at shorter shocks ,,"ie , ultima brand "

Have read reviews ,, but not a race car , just a cruisy barge ,,

Now , is it ok to run shock tower spacers ,, with the shorter shocks ??

No topping out issues ,?

Or just go the short shocks with stock towers

Orig lengrh shocks with tower spacers

Or short shocks with tower spacers ,,?

Better than standard shocks due to stiffer springs.. I prefer the pedders big bore short stroke..

Not sure what the optima shocks are like... Be good to get a review with this combo. I wouldn't run spacers with short stroke shocks

It's unlikely running spacers with short shocks will create any issues. Lowered x-fals have mammoth amounts if down travel.

But most cost effective solution would install it all. Run em for a few km and check if you need spacers. If u dont need spacers, you don't need em.

Biggest bit of advice i can give is make sure you get a stiff shock if running low springs.

Koni would be a better shocker if you have plenty of money... but if you can get by with ultimas you'll be saving enough for upgrades in other areas(like nolathane sway bar bushes etc..replacing worn parts and such)

i have the ultimas all round perform good 4 the money at $200 for 4 shocks, just stick to s pack ride height at about -25mm than stock.

S pack ride height would be bout the same as the kings kffl-0 then ,,?

Round 25 mm " inch" lower than stocko .

Cheers for the opinions fellas

S packs i have had(at least 5) have been same height as stock, i don't recall springs being different unless on ESP

this was My ute with those springs.. short shocks are suggested

This is the current runabout with kffl-0 springs in the front

Will load up a better shot later

looks good, doesn't look as low as all the cars on King Lows i have had and seen though.. does it have manual steering and no air con.. that might take 50kg of weight off the front, but cant see it sitting that much higher

got me wondering now about weight differences over the front end .

never considered air con , efi gear etc .

Don't think it'll make a huge difference.

My wagon as a carby GL, no A/C, but has P/S.

Not the best photo for showing off height, but Ghia wagon so EFI, A/C, P/S, full electrics, with the springs that are now in the red wagon.

Righto ,,

Quick call to lovells ,,

Asked about what shocks to run with the sport lowered springs ,,

Answer was just standard length , as I suspected.

Then i asked about if there was a difference in ltd and falcon springs on offer .

There is ,,,, two different part no's ,,

So i asked if there was either a difference in height or if its the Spring rate between the two ,,,

Bloke couldn't answer ,, just part no 's

Now im wondering if i should choose falcon sport low ones ,, to get the height between sport low ,,and super lows

If luck would have it works that way ,,?!?

How much lower is the "sports"?

My wagon is only dropped 1.5" in the front and I've got lowered shocks in there, and even still I'd like to get some shock tower spacers made.

Thought they might " top out " on their stroke .

Sports springs " sposed " to be bout an inch to 40mm i think .

Where fo you score the shock tower spacers ,? ,, just the ring type .

Last set i had were turned up by a mate that passed away .

they will work, for a couple of weeks, months, then......they wont. Tried fleabay for the shock tower spacers?

Yes, I still have some:

http://www.xfalcon.com/forums/index.php?/topic/38970-20mm-thick-alloy-front-suspension-shock-tower-spacer/

But I'm out of the correct grit paper to polish them. There are no local suppliers for fine P orby paper in nowra so i'll have to source form a paint supplier, and i don't fancy polishing by wet rub. I do intend to polish them all up, then put up a sale thread for them, Because then people wont have to wait for me to screw around as i'll get them all ready to ship.

Until then i can sort unpolished (Raw) ones though, if your in a rush.
