Mr Polson 10,214 Posted April 2, 2020 S3 xj6 would mean only the six cylinder variations, so the 4.0L? Yes? Otherwise it would be xj12 6 cylinder. XJ6 I just typed XJ6 into our system and it asked the question. This is the same system that will ask if a 4WD ute is 2dr or 4dr for filters, and sometimes ask if a car is auto or manual for clutch kits. 2 Panko and 2redrovers reacted to this
gerg 10,871 Posted April 2, 2020 Smith's are nice but frightfully expensive. If going for that classic British look, there is a brand made in India called Pricol. Not bad looking, sort of like Smith's and a little like the old VDO style too.Sent from my CPH1903 using Tapatalk 1 Thom reacted to this

Panko 2,480 Posted April 3, 2020 Big step forward today with this. I got the panel finished! all the gauge holes cut, switch holes cut, choke cable installed, last bits of wiring done, cable managed. Now im waiting for my gauges to arrive, then another round of wiring to do. First little roadblock today was making the realisation that because this isnt the correct frame for my head unit, my head unit will just slide straight out the back So I had to make some stop tabs for it to sit on. See the L tabs at the back of the radio. they have little rubber stops on them which is why it looks like its sitting away from them. I and radio tested. all my new wiring works. all my cables concealed. nothing to be seen here Ill have photos of it installed properly with the holes and in its functioning form tomorrow. I ran out of time and daylight today. Its nice being able to reach the radio, and everything being right there next to me, easy to get to feels much nicer than it did before. 2 2redrovers and deankxf reacted to this

Panko 2,480 Posted April 4, 2020 All done for now. I just have to replace the screws holding it in with some new flat headed screws, but done for now. ive ordered the gauges, so the next thing will be to make the wiring harness for the gauges. https://i.imgur.com/ncLiTeT.jpg 4 dex, Fingers, 2redrovers and 1 other reacted to this

Panko 2,480 Posted April 10, 2020 While we are all in lockdown, and not working (or at least I'm not) im using the chance, and the last of my income from work before it stops, to get some jobs done on the cars. Today I replaced the temperature gauge sender for the factory gauge. I have never experienced a correctly working temp gauge in the Escort. I also got the VDO cockpit gauges I was eyeing off. So the next project will be to install and wire them up. However, now that the factory temp gauge is working, the general feeling i got from the RSOCV guys is that the factory gauge is sufficient for monitoring the temp. So now im thinking the 3rd hole in the dash might be a matching VDO Cockpit clock. the only downside is its another $100, but F it. while im not going anywhere and spending money on going out or on fuel, i can afford a little bit of spare coin on the cars. 1 deankxf reacted to this
2redrovers 21,400 Posted April 10, 2020 You'd be able to get the job keeper payment to get some cash coming in while your work is closed down? I've got another week or so before I can think about stopping for a any length of time.

I've got another week or so before I can think about stopping for a any length of time. oh boy is that a can of worms and a half.... I cant get job keeper from either of my employers. ACMI (Australian Centre for the Moving Image) is state government. they do not receive any extra help from the government, so no job keeper. Synergy Events Group, on paper is technically only 9 months old. to be eligible for JK, you must be employed casually, consistently for minimum 12 months. SEG has been around for a long time, but in July last year when they merged with Starlite Productions, who I have worked for, for about 5 years as a contractor, they started an entire new business, new ABN etc. so in the governments eyes, SEG is only 9 months old I might be eligible for job seeker. I have lodged an "intent to claim" for job seeker. I missed a call from centrelink a couple days ago, they did not leave a voice message to return the call with a reference or anything, and have made no other attempts to make contact, via email, etc. ANYWAY, there has been a little uncertainty around who would actually get job seeker, depending on assets, savings etc. even though it was meant to be a hand out for any casual worker who has lost work. in my case, with 3 cars, significant savings thanks to inheritance, and I forfeited a lease to stay with my folks. so given my circumstances, i may not actually get a hand out, even though ive lost, lets say i dont work until december or january again, about $40k income. SO, it is a can of worms.
2redrovers 21,400 Posted April 10, 2020 I know, it's never simple or easy and every centerlink form is a trap to catch you out. You "should" be able to get the seeker payment under your circumstances even with complications as they have dropped the assets and other tests for this six month period at least. We had the dilemma of which was the best way to go too because the keeper is counted as income and seeker isn't but I have no desire to be made a hospital cleaner etc because they're short handed.I'm hoping to get time to work on some of my stuff too. Need the therapy, that's why I've been playing with that mini xdef. Crossed my mind to have a go at an esky as well. Have you ever seen any good blueprints for mk1? 2redrovers 21,400 Posted April 10, 2020 Not gone hunting for them yet, only thought about it this arvo. Some of the Aussie cars are hard to find blueprints or vector drawings. I went looking for a torana one but came up pretty much empty handed. Got lucky with the xdef. Might have luck with the escort given its popularity, thought maybe there was a chance you'd seen something on other forums etc.

2redrovers 21,400 Posted April 11, 2020 Yeah I wouldn't even consider cutting it up. I'd be looking for a rust bucket just in case things didn't go to plan with the conversion. You're cutting half the car apart anyway. 1 Panko reacted to this
