Panko 2,480 Posted November 15, 2018 I managed to finish work 2 early today. I was home by 6pm, and with daylight savings i could get a list of small jobs done on the car. this morning before leaving for work, i attacked the seat rail adapters with the angle grinder to cut what i didnt need off. picked up some new nuts and bolts on the way to work, and test fitted the adapter as soon as i got home from work... it took me 3 attempts, taking the seat in and out of the car, adjusting the height of the seat on the adapter (3 heights available) then ended up turning the adapter 180 degrees around before it finally went in comfortably. its an awesome fit in the car. plenty of room. this photo below was taken with the seat set for me. I cant afford to go any further forward because the bolster would hit the door handle. but its perfect for me. I attempted to change the broken headlight, with no avail because it was an aftermarket replacement, the globe holder holes are smaller (more modern) so it has H4 main beam (as compared to HB4, which is just a large based version of H4) and the parker globe is T10 wedge style, rather than bayonet like the original parkers. so i put the broken headlight back in. I also put got around to winding the driver's side drum brake off so it isnt binding anymore, as well re-fitted the stick on wheel weight that fell off. hopefully it will stay on now..i cleaned the wheel with prepsol, put new double sided tape on, and some strong black cloth tape over the top to keep it on the wheel. it aint going anywhere hopefully. After doing all this, i took the the car for a drive. all i can say is, wow. that seat is amazing. its comfy, and gives way more support up under the legs. the bolsters are mad at holding me still because i have more support under the legs, it seems that the car is almost easier to drive. my gear changes and motion on the clutch is much better than with the stock seat. Safe to say the car is ready for sunday. by the time i leave my place, pick up my other half from her place, get to the start of the run on sunday, do the run, to her place and home again. ill be up for over 200km in the car. im now pretty confident the car will do it easy, and it will be comfy enough for the trip 1 deankxf reacted to this

Panko 2,480 Posted November 15, 2018 Just now, deankdx said: can you get them anymore? was wondering about getting one from wreckers off (insert anything that has them) and fitting to My gemini wagon also paint will hold it together? no, but you can get this really good self adhesive stuff in rolls of it from autobarn. its specifically designed to take the heat of an engine bay. you just clean the surface, but the stuff out to the shape and carefully stick it on. looks nice too. 1 deankxf reacted to this
Panko 2,480 Posted November 19, 2018 Yesterday was the RSOCVic Reefton Spur cruise. it was a loooooong day, but a fantastic drive. Starting in Bayswater, heading up through Seville to Warburton, Reefton Spur, Marysville for lunch, home via black spur, healseville, it was a big and epic drive. the car could've done with more power going up over the reefton spur. Its a big long climb, however there was 2 of us in the car. the seat is bloody amazing. not only is it super comfy, throwing it around corners, i just dont move. I was running the suspension stiffed up a bit over half way in the front and a 1/3 in the back, and wow it was doing well in the turns. lacked a little power, but well and truely was holding its own in the turns, up against a Mini, an AE92 Corolla Seca with some serious work, and a handful of more modern cars. Once i was back on the straight roads, i pulled over and wound the suspension off, it was rock solid almost. so all and all im happy with the car. the diff was fine for the hills, the engine was pulling well, although lacking a little power up high, so when i get a chance to try the bigger carby again ill how I go getting that setup, as i suspect its just leaning out up in the top end still. seat was perfect. on a side note, with how hot it got yesterday once we came down out from the tree cover, I am definitely more keen to get the wagon finished, which has a/c, and much comfier to ride in...I dare say the girlfriend, although enjoyed yesterday, would much prefer the wagon on summer cruises 1 deankxf reacted to this

Defective 1,692 Posted November 19, 2018 As someone who’s owned a lot of escorts over the years I’ll just say you’re gonna drive yourself nuts chasing every little vibration or rattle. I learnt early on to ignore them unless they get worse. You fix one and it just means you can hear or feel another one. It’s looking mint now, those wheels are perfect imo Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2 Panko and Fingers reacted to this
SPArKy_Dave 8,863 Posted November 20, 2018 Maybe see if anyone makes a set of Hydraulic engine/trans mounts for the Escorts? Or they may already be hydraulic? Doing that, will decrease the NVH, markedly - just like modern vehicles.
Panko 2,480 Posted November 21, 2018 This saturday coming the car is being used as a wedding car for a colleague of mine, for the bridal party...with the bride driving the car herself. I had them come to my place last night and got her to drive the car to make sure I was comfortable with her driving it, and she was also comfortable. I cant actually be there, so I have a mate who I trust to take the car up to the wedding, and be passenger with her and the bridal party in the car, in case something goes wrong. The girl knows that what my mate says on the day goes, so if something goes wrong, she cant argue the point. but I dont think anything will go wrong. So in prep for the wedding, i sorted out the centre caps for the wheels... ignore the stickers. they are only temporary until i get the "RS" stickers made. the plastic caps have a 20mm hole in the centre, so i had to stick something over them. dont tell anyone they're off a HQ GTS It turns out the wheel nuts for these wheels are an absolute prick to get. I have been running around with the wrong wheel nuts, which hold the wheels on, but its a little risky. The wheel nuts i need are an ET nut (Extended taper). basically it means they are both a tapered lug nut with a shank on them also. they are commonly available, but these wheels are somewhat unique. why? because the taper seat, and hole for the shank are HUGE. so the studs are 7/16th thread, but the taper seat at its widest point is 1" in diameter, and the shank hole is 20mm in diameter. the only place i can get them is from the UK, so im waiting for a couple of places to come back to me with availability and price. The original seat is going back in the car just for the wedding for 2 reasons. 1 it will be much easier for her to get into the car with her dress on etc and 2, i think they might be doing some photos with the car, so i figure it would look better with the correct seat in rather than miss matched seats. 1 deankxf reacted to this
SPArKy_Dave 8,863 Posted November 21, 2018 Are you putting ribbons on the car too? Those windscreen/bonnet thingys... Here's a thread on how to identify the various versions, of the Ford RS style alloy wheels. http://www.turbosport.co.uk/showthread.php?t=76297 Did you suss out the NICE Products range of wheel nuts?
Panko 2,480 Posted November 21, 2018 Not sure about wedding ribbons. Havent asked the couple yet if they want them. Ok so ill let you all know now, my wheels are in fact Capri Laser wheels, not Escort RS. Which is why im having issues with wheel nuts. They for some reason ran these weird AF wheel nuts. No i didnt check them out Dave, but going by that they wont work anyway. I got onto a place in the UK that can supply the correct wheel nuts. Ill post a pic shortly 1 SPArKy_Dave reacted to this
SPArKy_Dave 8,863 Posted November 21, 2018 They're still RS2000 wheels in my book... (all made from the same mould) Can you swap over the taper inserts, to the flat sort, or is the actual alloy drilled differently?
Panko 2,480 Posted November 21, 2018 this is what im getting from the UK. but in 7/16th UNF. this pic is M12x1.5 1 SPArKy_Dave reacted to this

deankxf 20,266 Posted November 21, 2018 similar to XC GXL only different thread? (shank is probably different thickness too?) what annoys me is these wheels would have had nuts once.. where the hell do they end up.. almost every set of wheels i've bought didn't come with the nuts. sounds like it's all coming together 1 Panko reacted to this
