Did you take pics of the inside of the solenoid?
I didn't think anyone did 'stanced' cars these days... due to them being pretty much un-driveable. :P

not yet i havent taken photos of the inside. but its pretty obvious, it has a broken wire, that is pretty much impossible to fix given the way they are made

well Houston, we have a problem.

yep, the diff in the escort is crying for help :( its had an interesting knock for a while now, progressively getting worse. well, i got dad to have a listen while i went back and forth in the drive today, and it appears to the be the diff centre making this god awful knock.

i was warned these diffs were pretty weak, that even a 1300 can kill them. i suppose i should stop doing the occasional burnout lol @SPArKy_Dave until i find a replacement.

Driveway exit single pegger's FTW... :P

They're only a BW75 diff arent they?
ie, basically the same as even FG ute diffs?

and dropping U turns at the T intersection near the factory when i missed the driveway lol *facepalm*

no i think they are smaller. they are smaller than a falcon diff. any much much much shorter in the length lol

is it back lash in the pinion and ring? or slop in the axels splines, i've had falcon ones with massive backlash that woudn't die..
My gemini has a constant whine and metal in the oil, it's shiney.. it's got me more concerned than any other diff issue i've had(blown at least 6 up in various ways

it has backlash, but then it has a knock when i stop and go. so as i come to a stop, i hear it go clunk, then as i take of i hear it clunk a few times. never makes noise getting along, other than a bit of a knock with back lash. it sounds like the planetary gears knocking.

nah not a bush, well i dont think. it sounds like an LSD jamming and unjamming. that sort of knock. its a distinct noise when it goes

weld it before it breaks...
its probably the pins holding the spider gears .. if so.. bang any moment from My experience

this is why I am NOT doing the RSOCV/TACCV join motorsport weekend next weekend. i was going to enter in the motorkhana and hill climb, but i dare say the diff is on its last legs. im still going to take a look though

got a wanted ad on the group yet? could get one and fit it before then?
be good to watch anyway.. i'm sure the waiting to run would kill some of the fun (calder drags, waiting is SOOO painful)

I ran the car up Arthur's Seat yesterday, pushed it pretty hard. I was surprised, for the little 1300, how well it went on such a steep and windy road, essentially a hill climb with the way i was driving it, did really well. but yeah with the diff like it is, not so keen.

I have one lined up, whenever i want it. Michael's car has a diff i can have. he has a stronger diff to go in.

But, his car is auto, so it will either be 3.9 or 3.77 ratio. 3.9 will be ok step down, but 3.77 might be too far for the 1300.

if it's 3.77 it will fix that in between gears issue you had on Marysville drive? 2nd was too low, and 3rd too gutless? now 2nd will be fine...

its less than 5% different, which is less than going 2.77 to 2.92 or vice versa..

in saying that.. more torque and power will fix it.. = headwork :)

my concern would be getting off the line, and labouring the engine too much, but yes more power would be ideal.

Yesterday when i went down to the peninsula, i was pushing it out through the RPM, and if i keep it pegged all the way to 100km/h, it will do 100km/h in 3rd, but it hits 5500-5700rpm, and surprisingly smooth up there too, although it starts to really run out there. if i went down to a 3.77, it might have a bit more legs up there so if im accelerating hard etc, im not having to do 3 gear changes to get up to highway speeds.

i really need to do a leak down test on the engine. I know its low on compression, would be nice to know if its head or cylinders.

considering how easy a diff is to swap, i'd try a 3.77 diff regardless.. on a 4 speed (no overdrive) it would make me feel better knowing it's cruising at a closer to overdrive range..
i've never messed with diff ratio's in 4cyls, but in Falcons, it makes very little difference going 5% one way or the other.. tuning can make more of a difference.

yeah it is pretty easy to swap them.

even though the 2.92 in the XF only brought the RPM up by 100rpm (or thereabouts), it made a world of difference to the way it drove. i just dont want going the opposite way i did in the XF, in the escort, make it harder or annoying to drive

it will be one of those jobs where i do it properly. so while im at it, rebush the rear suspension and paint all the suspension components etc.

I used to live at the top of the hill, just past the lookout cafe. Up and down the hill was usually fun even in the mirage, although the rover sounded better hehe. Up is more fun than down although when you live there you learn not to over do it because the local cops LOVE that hill. Lycra clad wankers can get stuffed though

but if the carby was tuned properly and it made more power.. it may be better all round..
that said, you'd expect ford should have got it right the first time too.. or close..

(i just booked the gemini in for dyno tuning at a carby specialist shop will let you know how that goes and costs)

BIG step forward today with the RS wheels. I finally got around to polishing the last of the 4 wheels.

These 2 photos show the difference in the wheel just from sitting in the shade and sitting in the sun. the last wheel hasnt come up nearly as good as i had hoped, and clearly needs a lot more, abrasive work done to it, but im  happy with it for now.

so this is in the shade

and this is in the sun (also this is before i hit the wheel with the polish, just been sanded)

NImheDs.jpg

This last wheel, is the only 1 of the 4 that I have soda blasted the paint off of, so I am 1 step ahead with this wheel than the others.

I got i all masked up, ready for paint tomorrow :D I can not wait to see it with some fresh black paint on there
(oh and you can see in this how much better the lip and dish looks just from being polished, over the last pic where it was just sanded before polish)

Although that last shot with the masking just highlights how hideous that kind of wheel looks when you attempt to colour code them ...blehemoji33.png

haha i know right. could you imagine if i colour coded the infills to the colour of the car? metallic green? B) haha :(

ok so who is free this saturday and feels like coming for a drive in the Escort?
@deankdx

@SPArKy_Dave

@2redrovers

RSOCV have their vs TCCA motorsport weekend at Terry Baker motorsport park.
As I said in an earlier post yesterday, I am not competing in the hill climb or motorkahna, but I am doing the road tour event on the saturday. Its on public roads, so all road rules apply, but there will be clues and notes I have to right down as im getting along. teams work as a car. so 1 car = 1 team, no matter how many people in the car. so, if anyone is up for a decent day as co-driver in the escort let me know. will need to be at my house by 730 at the latest on saturday morning :P

otherwise ill go solo, and try my best to get answers down

usual answer for Me, (that's a no for anyone wondering)

any time i have between now and Wednesday morning must be spent getting the gemini ready for dyno tune.

good luck with the diff.. sounds like a gamble even still.
