XD-XF bonnet lacing

Recommended Posts

When i had my engine bay resprayed the painter ripped off the rubber seal between the rear edge of the bonnet and the firewall with the idea of masking up behind that so i could replace it and there would be no lines from painting.

Problem is they were available through rare spares part no. BL205 xd-f bonnet lacing, but have since been discontinued.

I have searched high and low ringing around countless main stream and obscure parts suppliers, and many hours spent searching the internet for a new item but all to no avail.

I have not checked the wreckers as i assume that as mine was torn to shreds when removed, a second hand one from another vehicle would suffer the same fate.

I was thinking of trying one form another vehicle but have no idea if anything would be at all similar or compatible

For example http://www.kingswoodcountry.com.au/buy/ford-bonnet-firewall-lacing-rubber-strip-plates-sc/BL202 or http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/321022621066?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

What, if anything, have you guys used place of the original? Or has everyone with a resprayed engine bay just left it out?

Edit: Just in case anyone is not sure what i'm referring to, notice the messy bit right where the bonnet would seal at the rear.

Sorry..........what was the question.??? Couldn't see it for all the 5.0 litre engine porn. That engine bay looks sweeeeeet.!   B)

NO, cant help you, with the lacing. Are they same for LTD, ZK etc.?  Tried taking a piece to Clark rubber? they have a weird selection of profiles in strip length.

Haha, cheers bear. The bay looks a little tidier than that now but I still think it's a mess. Needs lots of little love touches...

I'd think it would be the same as the ltd's, and I did call into Clark rubber for a quick look. Only prob is I don't have the old lacing and have no idea of the size or profile of it.

Do you need it?

Prob not, I might just have to clean up the area and get over it. Was just hoping to hide the line between new an old paint. Also was reading a bit about air pressure/flow in the engine bay somewhere a while back that made me think it might be a good idea to put it back there. Can't remember the detail though, my memoriy is only really good for about a week back at best and that was months ago.

I've never put one back and never had a problem.

Go hit up the self serve wreckers, might get lucky with an xg or xh one being soft enough to remove without damage.

Yeah I might give that a go.

Would anybody be so kind as to take a good as they can profile pick and rough measurement to help in the search for somthing of the new variety?

I've removed a few without destroying any, guess it depends if they're hard and brittle or still reasonably soft.

Yeah mine was certainly not brittle, I'm sure with only a few fucks given it could've come off neatly and undamaged. Annoying but wadayado.

I never put on Goldie, looks ok and is good for an extra 10 kilowatts at the back wheels with out it  ;)

I think Nana still has her's but its all hard and cracked.

Once you remove the glue residue and give that part a bit of paint you'll be like "Hey, that looks good"

Wonder what Clark rubber have you could whack in there??

I had a quick look here

http://www.scottsoldautorubber.com.au/ford.htm

Didn't see a listing for what you wanted but that doesn't mean he won't know what to use. I've picked up some rover and fargo bits from him and I know he has just about everything made on the market. Send him an email and see if he can help.

If anyones interested i found a product that should do the job perfect at clarke rubber. They call it "Sponge extrusion self adhesive blister 16x12mm" part no. 31633, was $11.95/m. I bought 1.8m, but 1.6 will do the job easy.

Here's the stuff

Trial fitted this piece this arvo and it fits perfect, the rib at the top seals on the underside of the bonnet like it was meant for it.

I'll put up a pic when i clean up the area and install it.
