302 flat tap vs 302 roller engine

Recommended Posts

Is there any physical size difference between the to engines? Will the roller engine slide straight in to replace the flat tap motor?

Same bellhousing pattern same engine mounts same physical size, just make sure your harmonic balancer and flywheel/ flexplate match the engine as roller windsors use a 56ounce balance and early use a 46 ounce balance

How are you going to set the front of the engine up and are you running a carb or efi?

Is there something I should keep in mind?

Hoping mechanical to keep it simple.

few things to keep in mind..

The roller may not have a fuel pump cam installed, and even may not have the slot in the timing cover for the mech fuel pump.

Depending on the setup, water pump rotation could be a issue so make sure you get the all sorted too..

Unless its a retro fit roller :D

It wouldn't bother me if I had to run an electric fuel pump. But what's this about the water pump rotation?

Later 5.0s use a serpentine belt which in this case drives the water pump off the back of the belt spinning it backwards when compared to the v-belt setup.

One thing that all these 5.0 serpentine examples have in common is water pump rotation0826e26c3dbecec9598820a6152fad75.jpg
