Fordvan 0 Posted April 27, 2016 Hi all just wondering if JL279000 would be a falcon engine number? Just trying to establish previous engine type. It has xd brakes and wheels so was thinking possibly engine was out of a falcon of similar age ? Thanks for any help in advance
VDO 124 Posted April 27, 2016 What model is your car..?
Fordvan 0 Posted April 27, 2016 Its a 69 transit van. I'm actually thinking it may have been a torana engine number. Stranger things have happened
gerg 10,871 Posted April 28, 2016 1st letter: J = Australia 2nd letter: G = Broadmeadows (main line) H = Brisbane K = Sydney L = Broadmeadows (secondary line) I'd imagine that if your engine was originally from a Transit, its engine number would start with a "C" as the bodies were made in Europe/UK and bolted together here, like Cortinas and Escorts were. It's more likely to have come from an F-series truck as they were built on the second line at Broadmeadows.
Mr Polson 10,214 Posted April 28, 2016 Falcon utes and vans also went down the secondary line at Broadmeadows. Never seen a JK engine number, what was done in Sydney? I know Brisbane was the Fairlanes/LTD 1 gerg reacted to this
gerg 10,871 Posted April 28, 2016 I know Sydney (Homebush) did Lasers, Meteors and Telstars, but it was pretty much only an assembly plant. I think they did all kinds of knock-down kit assembly so maybe even goes back to Zephyr and Consul and possibly Customline (Thom?). It was built in 1936 so they probably did a lot of different stuff there over the years. The building is still there but has mostly been disused since they stopped assembling Lasers in 1994.
