CHESTNUTXE 7,310 Posted January 25, 2016 I was looking for some front runner wheels and never thought that a steel chaser rim would be lighter than a alloy snowflake buts its about 1/2 a kg 2 slydog and gerg reacted to this

CHESTNUTXE 7,310 Posted January 25, 2016 i have seen on e bay nankang does a 165-80-15 and says it will fit 4-6 inch rim .
gerg 10,871 Posted January 25, 2016 Snowies are bloody chunky, you'd do well to bend one that's for sure. They're definitely a lot more robust than most aftermarket rims. 1 slydog reacted to this

That's a good point, I've never seen a buckled one. 1 slydog reacted to this
gerg 10,871 Posted January 25, 2016 I've never liked how chunky they look, especially on the rim face where it's squared off. I'll let ya's in on a bit of a trick: I bevelled mine off by about 5 mm just to make the face a bit thinner and less chunky. Also makes the distance from the rim to the spokes look less. Made a big difference! Â Before: Â After (bit hard to see the bevel): 1 slydog reacted to this
CHESTNUTXE 7,310 Posted January 25, 2016 IM cleaning my ESP rims and getting new gold paint and getting em machined, and while lookin at the wreckers today grabbed 2 chaser rims 1 slydog reacted to this
gerg 10,871 Posted January 25, 2016 What part are you getting machined? Are you simply lightening or is there brake clearance problems?
CHESTNUTXE 7,310 Posted January 25, 2016 nah just machining the edges and lip because it looks shithouse, the clear coat has come off and bubbled ,i have orderd the factory gold paint and will be lookin awsome soon. 1 bear351c reacted to this
slydog 7,873 Posted January 25, 2016 OK take this with alot of thought if your not comfortable but you could just fit the bare rims to the rear and jack up the car at both ends and clean the rims with the engine going, car in gear and wheels spinning. Done it before myself 3 Fingers, SirkWhyXF and Mr Polson reacted to this
CHESTNUTXE 7,310 Posted January 25, 2016 yeahhhh sounds good but im taken em to a company that has done a lot of ESP resto wheels and he does an awsome job,im gettin it done pretty cheap too. 1 slydog reacted to this

Done it before myself  Yep, same! Pull the weights off after marking, hold a bit of 1000 grit on it while idling in 1st gear, then steel wool, then some wheel polish. I also did the bevelled edge this way using a flapper disc on a grinder. I paint wheels this way too. 2 SirkWhyXF and slydog reacted to this

CHESTNUTXE 7,310 Posted January 25, 2016 There is many different snowflakes, about 3 different gold esp types,s pac, ghia, and sportsman, some snowflakes have been stamped as early as 1981 ! 1 gerg reacted to this
gerg 10,871 Posted January 25, 2016 Mine are EA S-Pack that have been stripped of silver paint and mocked up as ESPs 1 slydog reacted to this
CHESTNUTXE 7,310 Posted January 25, 2016 i have 3 1984 esp rims and 2 1982 ones there is a small difference between the two but finding a matching set is quite hard, but not impossible,i have also seen grey xf ghia rims 1 gerg reacted to this
gerg 10,871 Posted January 25, 2016 I understand the centre caps are hard to find, being plastic and all. Might be a market in making repro ones if ESPs keep up their value.
CHESTNUTXE 7,310 Posted January 25, 2016 Already done ,global trim in melbourne are selling them, just as good as factory ones. 1 gerg reacted to this
CHESTNUTXE 7,310 Posted January 26, 2016 usually a ESP rim has thin cast line ,see picture,as where all the other snowy types are machined flat(most). 2 CHESTNUTXE and gerg reacted to this
CHESTNUTXE 7,310 Posted January 26, 2016 note how the edges of the gold spoke are rolled, most later esp rims 83 -84 models had these type.
CHESTNUTXE 7,310 Posted January 26, 2016 And the 1982 esp rims have a flat spoke where it meets the edge. 1 gerg reacted to this
gerg 10,871 Posted January 26, 2016 Earlier spokes look fatter too. Amazing the trouble they go to with different castings, etc for what looks like identical wheels at a glance.
