Jiminy Kriket 133 Posted December 20, 2015 Hey guys, just want to pick your brains again. The wifes AU wagon has recently developed the issue where the ac will stop cooling intermittently. I can get it to start cooling again by switching the AC button off then back on. With the ac on, you can see the clutch engages and disengages without issue. What i am wondering is what sensor/relay issues should i be looking for? Still cools very well when it is running, but the clutch seems to disengage for no reason i can see. Any advice would help. thanks
Nath 1,975 Posted December 20, 2015 Let me know if you need any bits, still got the full aircon setup from my XR8, was all working.
SPArKy_Dave 8,867 Posted December 20, 2015 Sounds like an over-pressure cut out. Blockages or overcharging causes this. Blocked condenser/ poor airflow Or moisture within the refrigerant lines, causing ice crystals to form and block the TX valve, thus causing over-pressure. Has the AC system been worked on in recent times? 1 Outback Jack reacted to this
Jiminy Kriket 133 Posted December 20, 2015 Sheared the input shaft to the pump 2 years ago. Replaced with a second hand pump and it was regassed by a local auto fridgie... Worked flawlessly until recent. The high pressure line gets cold quick once the clutch is engaged. Is the condensor the one under the dash or the one in front of the radiator? Mr Polson 10,214 Posted December 20, 2015 AC condenser is the one in front of the radiator.
Jiminy Kriket 133 Posted December 20, 2015 Thanks, I'll go give her a squirt out and see if that helps. What's the cause/cure for the other possible issues?
Stu5766 394 Posted December 20, 2015 Is it a Fairmont or just a base model falcon?? It will be one of the above mentioned issues or if Fairmont a possible issue with the thermostat for the climate control?
Jiminy Kriket 133 Posted December 20, 2015 Just a lowly old futura... No climate control in the old girl.
