One side finally done. Fully sanded to #180 and any of the bigger defects filled. Had to buy some fine fill to do it and I didn't realise it was the same brand as that other filler. Apparently they figured out how to make their products sand easy but fairly hopeless at anything else. I mean whats the point of fine fill that won't sit down into pinholes?? ? At least it was cheap.

Yeah essentially modified stock in appearance .. solid axle on leaf setup with coils up front. Not sure exactly but I saw some billet work up front that suggested serious coilover setup. The back is setup in such a way that the leaf is as close to a floating rear as you could get. Its shackled but they can move around a lot more than you'd expect.

I messed around with a photo I took the other day, you can see part of the coilover

I'm trying to remember what I saw when he had the bonnet off today. The top of that coil wasn't where the factory location is, more like behind the factory tower. Can't remember if it still has factory towers.

Gotta get this back up to date

Made the last section for the roof of the kombi.

The last there is a shot of what I'm replacing, the half assed crap that the other "panel guy" put in.

Then there was the xb corner made, then the emergency call for the race car and then I got dumped in the crap. Got forced into a deadline that is practically impossible but because it's not just me involved, I have to go along with it and try to make it work. Its ridiculously tight but I've basically got no more than a couple of weeks to get the kombi ready to hand to a painter that has been organised to get the job done. Unfortunately this puts everything else on hold until I can deliver and I'm REALLY not happy about it... but what can I do except carry on...

So welding happened..
Edge cut and done, this was the smaller panel I made. Only had to go up as high as the bump line for this one.

Big patch ..

While I did that, the roof top was cleaned and sanded for primer and then it al went grey

Just noticed some bumps at the bottom of the light in that photo. I think its ok in reality but I'll check it over again later. It does feel consistent with the other side though.

Under side of roof and a wall rib got red on the inside faces to help protect in the long term. I used the grey etch on the outside to hopefully minimize any compatibility issues later on in paint. (Not fully certain about the red under 2k top coats)

Just when I can least afford it I've lost a few days time along the way for various reasons. Also finally had Sparky Dave down to install the big 3 phase power for the spot welders /dent pullers because I really need the ability to get the kombi done. Need the hoist in place and functional too, so thats happening as well

Need it to get the undercarriage of the kombi finished and painted so it can get back on its own wheels around the end of the week ish.

be good to see you using that spot welder/ dent puller, i saw it last time i was at sparkydaves shop and it's a beast of a thing.

working under pressure, do not want.. "because racecar" means a different thing to the people needing to fix them between races obviously

Welcome to stop by any time Dean, I'll show you how it works.

And do not want either... the timing is not nice at all and the goings on around here have made it even harder to meet. You've waited this long and you want it rushed so you can have it for Christmas. How are we supposed to deliver a car that LOOKS like it was worth the 70k you're spending if you don't give us enough time at the most crucial stage?

We now have a hoist fully bolted down and just needs oil and a power lead hooked up. And now that the power is fully up and working... I have dent pullers!! !!

Jeez I didn't realise quite how much I missed these damn things.

Big crease ran up from the tail light, gone in half hour of light work. This machine does have a habit of burning a bit hot and blowing holes if you're not really careful. Got one just at the end and I knew it was going to happen. Need to wire a plug on the blue machine and give it a test, have a feeling its got better control.
