The main reason is i want to run a dual exhaust and when i was under the car doing the diff i noticed the fuel line is exactly where the other muffler should be so im going to have to upgrade the fuel system or line to fit the dual exhaust.

Size of tank depends on how often you want to fill up.

3/8th line is bigger than standard if thats the internal diameter of the line as my xe has standard supply line of around 9mm outside diameter. Also be careful if your going to use braided hose as the internal size is different (smaller) to hardline when they both have the same outside diameter.

As for route of the fuel line my xe runs the supply down the passenger side sill, and this is factory. The return to tank and charcoal canister lines run along the chassis rail and meet the supply line near the lower control arm mounting point.

yep ok,but on the factory v8 ,i think the fuel line go's towards the front left chassis and then into the engine bay to mate with the clevo pump, just mine still has the 6 in it at the moment so just wondering what is the go.cheers

Dropped a clevo in my old XD, just had to extend the fuel line forward, about half a metre. Ran an Escort steel tank under the bum, so I could fit twin XB GT cowbells. Modified the rear valance to suit, looked sweet. Exhaust mobs in Nannalaide (South Oz), refused to run the passenger side pipe next to the plastic fuel tank.

funny that because ford back in the day did so many tests on the new plastic fuel tanks and even dropped them off the top of 2 story buildings to show how strong they were, the main problem with doing a dual exhaust on a xe -xf  is the tank and the watts linkage on the passenger side ,so most just go for a short dumped twin at the mufflers ,well thats what i plan to do,and move the fuel line so the exhaust doesnt heat it up,cheers.

You can run up to 2.5" twin pipes where the original tail pipe runs, they basically have to be stacked one on top of the other then turn flat again towards the rear of the car

I have just made my own exhaust which was only single but there is still plenty of room down the back. I used 3 1/2 inch from gearbox crossmember into a 3 1/2 inch muffler in the rear factory position then turned the 3 1/2 inch pipe up out of the muffler. I used a reducer down to 3 inch over the diff and out the rear with a hotdog style muffler sitting between the spare tyre well and the fuel tank. I had to work around a haymen reece heavy duty towbar as well, with a bit of creativity you could fit large twins in. If you or someone you know has decent fabrication skills it's really not hard just takes a bit of planning and a bit of time to get right. Cost me $300 to make my exhaust not including mufflers and that was from the start of the secondaries in the extractors to the tip at the rear, and I even made my own tip.

The whole thing to me is the sound,my last xe had a single exhaust and it just didnt sound the way a v8 should, thats why im keen to get it right this time and upgrade the fuel system at the same time,or just dump the pipes at the diff.

Not saying that you should do a single, just giving you and example of the size you can fit in there. I recon with a good deal of planning I could just about squeeze dual 3 inch over the diff, the biggest problem is getting it past the standard tank. But since you going a fuel cell mate a duel system will be no dramas, just need planning and working through it. It would be a full custom job working out what angles the pipes need to be on and travel through, not hard just time consuming.

My FC ran twin 1 7/8" pipes "shotgun" style out the factory valance cutout. Sounded awesome, looked factory. Obviously the passenger side pipe was longer, as it had to travel form left to right, but didn't notice any difference in the tone.

Could you just get a narrow x pipe and put it around the gearbox x member and then instead of kicking out the pipe out - have them follow each other out of whatever side you choose???   Then run the shotgun look.

Many years ago I had a ute from the dark side and I went BIG single on it.  Man that thing sounded sweet. Unmistakably v8.  I used to flog it up the Cardwell range on the way back from the Ingham Car show.  the range is cut through some awesome rainforest lined hills.  Windows down and just take in that sound of the V8.  ahhh...

Back to reality - Do what pleases you bud.

Now I really want a v8 again - damn it - better get stuck into that xa build....

The crossflow thats still in there sounds pretty mean i must say ,it has a deep bellow at idle with straight thru 2 x1/4 single ,but wait untill i drop the clevo in and sought this exhaust thing out.

I have fitted a 65 mustang tank under my XD sedan.

It's 60 litres & rear filling.

I fitted an XD oil temp gauge in place of the fuel gauge so I could get a reading from the mustang sender unit.

I have just fitted a full 2.5 inch twin mandrel bent system with plenty of room beside the tank.

Hey stu do you have any issues with heating the fuel from the exhaust? From the last pic it looks like the fuel line is fairly close to the top of the passenger side exhaust?
