Lott 35 Posted July 6, 2015 Looking at going a new cam either comp xe274 or 280h Anyone got any info good or bad on these cams. In a xd 351c dished pistons 2v closed chamber heads performer manifold either 600 vac sec or 750 dp Holley 4 into 1 pacemaker 2 1/2 single system ,auto 2500 stall, diff 28 spline 3.45:1. Thanks
bear351c 10,270 Posted July 6, 2015 Hi mate, can't help with the cam choice, (never used Comp cams), but with a mild setup like yours, choose the 600 cfm. The 750 DP will suck ten dollar notes straight out of your wallet....... 2 Outback Jack and gerg reacted to this
gerg 10,871 Posted July 6, 2015 Yep agree with bear, DP for race, vac for street. That exhaust will choke it especially with that cam. It won't let the cam work properly, but if that's what you have to run, then so be it. Ideally if it has to be single, a 3" is the go, would let it breathe much better. 1 xSMOKEx reacted to this
wagoon 2,429 Posted July 6, 2015 I really like the XE274 cam but I'm biased as it was going to be the one I used before I went to the crossflow setup, but I was going to use a manual box. Here is a thread on the 274 http://www.ozfalcon.com.au/index.php?/topic/3688-my-clevo-build-thoughts/

wagoon 2,429 Posted July 7, 2015 I really dont think you will regret that cam, and if you go alloy head it will just get better. Nice choice 1 ando76 reacted to this
Lott 35 Posted July 8, 2015 Have looked at my heads need to get the seats done, install height to high. This MIght just blow out a bit from a just cam change. 1 wagoon reacted to this
wagoon 2,429 Posted July 8, 2015 They usually do mate. It's the old "suppose while it's out........." or "since this needs changing I might as well do.......". I learnt with my engine that any change will effect at least half a dozen other thing that either require changing or at least should be changed to take full advantage of the upgrade. Butcha 111 Posted July 9, 2015 Yeah like a might as well put a 3.85" stroke crank in. To take advantage of the cam you see.
Lott 35 Posted July 9, 2015 Nice try Butcha, but don't think the cam budget will go that far. 1 Butcha reacted to this
Stu5766 394 Posted August 4, 2015 I have a similar setup. 30 thou over with 2v closed chamber heads, XE274 cam, air gap manifold with 750dp. I had a C4 with 3000 stally & 3.45 rear end. Also had a 2.5 inch exhaust with try y's. It moved along nicely. I am currently making some changes which include match porting, blending the bowls & cleaning up around the guides. 4 into 1 extractors, twin 2.25 exhaust, top loader, 3.9 diff gears & a HP centre for my holly. Will be interested to see what it does. 5 wagoon, XTREME KARTS XF, Lott and 2 others reacted to this

Lott 35 Posted August 7, 2015 Thom, I did the cam run in today, then had a quick blast up the street. Now draining the oil and getting ready to start putting inner spring in. It's not going to get mistaken for a stocky anymore! Sounds real tough. It will be interesting to see how it goes on the dyno, and then to the drag strip. 2 Thom and wagoon reacted to this
Thom 6,650 Posted August 7, 2015 Good to see some ex customline parts put to good use, did you grab the new rocker that was in the glove box?

Stu5766 394 Posted August 7, 2015 It's funny how you get used to some things. I have the exact same cam & I have heard it idle so much that I've forgotten how cranky it sounds. I see you have standard tappet covers. Are there rollor rockers hidden under there??
Lott 35 Posted August 8, 2015 Thom thanks, yes I got the new one out of the glove box. Stu5766, yes I put the rollers under the standard rocker covers, thought they would work better there. 1 Thom reacted to this
Stu5766 394 Posted August 8, 2015 Cool. I thought they would fowl the covers, but well done.
