Free.51 2,717 Posted April 28, 2015 Are the pitman arms the same on manual/PS boxes or différent? Cos im changing the box in the Zl from PS to manual thanks.
XTREME KARTS XF 1,212 Posted April 28, 2015 Manual and P/S box pitman arms are different. They can be a real prick to get off as the nut is done up to 300 nm. You need a special pitman arm puller that has the muscle to get them off. 2 Crazy2287 and steve mcqueen reacted to this
Free.51 2,717 Posted April 28, 2015 Cool thanks mark, i just came back from lukegt's and bought a whole manual steer box with pitman arm connected so im going to change from PS to manual in the Zl. Free.51 2,717 Posted April 28, 2015 I once used thé base of a bottle jack to smack the steering arm up & off the pitman arm. But ill get a pitman arm puller cos i dont have that bottle jack anymore.

Jiminy Kriket 133 Posted May 3, 2015 Yeah, just gently pry the flange away from the firewall, the slip joint has more than enough movement in it to do that.
Free.51 2,717 Posted May 3, 2015 Ive tried prying levering the on the flange but nothing seems to be happening.
Free.51 2,717 Posted May 3, 2015 Got it done, i was able to lever one part of the the flange out enough to get one of the nut & bolt on & did it up a little bit then was able to squeeze the coupler & flange together enough to get the second nut & bolt on & start tightening them up nothing was gentle about the whole process. Now just need to put the steering linkage back on the pitman arm & im done. 1 Outback Jack reacted to this

dex 2,065 Posted December 28, 2016 Well bugger ,,! Went up to visit mr polson to grab an idler arm ,, Tried the new pitman arm i got , up against the new power steer pitman arm repco sell . Different , spline ,, the 4 large teeth are thicker/wider . And the spline is a just noticeable corser pitch . Bugger ,, Oh well ,, first two steps to the full front end rehash on the ltd
SPArKy_Dave 8,870 Posted December 28, 2016 At a glance, you can tell the two apart - the power steering has a larger splined hole, compared to the manual steering pitman arm. They both have the same curve in the arm itself.
dex 2,065 Posted December 28, 2016 Yeah , lengths seemed same same ,, As with the curve .. Needed both there to spot it . Just would have been a bugger to pull ol knackered one out to find the freebie didnt fit .
