matt_lamb_160 252 Posted March 27, 2015 Has anyone got good pictures of an AU vs an FG starter motor? I am chasing more clearnce between the exhaust and the solenoid (on a crossflow). I hear that the solenoid position is rotated on the FG, if you know, what direction is it rotated in? 1 wagoon reacted to this

slydog 7,873 Posted March 27, 2015 I know there is length issue between Eseries to BA style as I had to use the front off the E series and back off the BA to make a starter for the ute ? So yes no help but perhaps a trip to the wreckers if you could
matt_lamb_160 252 Posted March 27, 2015 That's an issue I am unaware of BA is shorter than E-series so what was the issue? Yes, a trip to the wreckers would probably work, but I hope someone would know. 1 slydog reacted to this
slydog 7,873 Posted March 27, 2015 Can't remember which way it was but TBH my flexplate to convertor was loose and as they only start on 3 spots I'd bet $$$ to peso's it was landing in the same spot every time. Just hope the right person finds the thread to help ya bro... But I do know mine winds over and starts easier and quiet as again
matt_lamb_160 252 Posted March 27, 2015 Hmm,,. From some pics the solenoid looks closer to 9 o'clock on the FG one. Any ideas to get the solenoid closer to 11 o'clock?
slydog 7,873 Posted March 27, 2015 There located by tangs and depressions to the front body so you need to sort how the black outer fits to the front? I think If I remember correctly.
gregaust 319 Posted March 27, 2015 Be careful, the FG has a different flange
TF_250 398 Posted March 27, 2015 The ba and fg are the same orientation so the solenoid is in the same spot, yes the flange has a large tab on it but could be ground off. 2 XTREME KARTS XF and slydog reacted to this
matt_lamb_160 252 Posted March 27, 2015 Thanks. How does the orientation (of the FG) compare with XF and AU? EDIT: By orientation I mean the solenoid position
TF_250 398 Posted March 27, 2015 I was under the impression that they are the same from E series right till BA?? FG top BA Bottom BA in car FG in car the orientation is the same the FG is just shorter in length by about 30mm from memory. 2 XTREME KARTS XF and matt_lamb_160 reacted to this
slydog 7,873 Posted March 27, 2015 The length in the front was the issue but only by like 8mm or so. The E series fit without a spacer and the BA needed about 8mm of spacing to work so I swapped the old front onto the new rear and have zero issues since ? 78xcgxl 241 Posted March 28, 2015 BF look to be the same as FG starters just pulled one off the BF engine going into my XC, E series and BA starters loom dimensionally the same in size. 1 matt_lamb_160 reacted to this
