Mr Polson 10,214 Posted January 2, 2015 Surely you'd be alright with anything VDO? This is the one I was going to buy when I thought my in tank pump shit itself.
Outback Jack 6,352 Posted January 2, 2015 Here mate, try one of these, ebay is your friend..... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/OEM-QUALITY-FUEL-PUMP-FORD-FALCON-XE-XF-WAGON-EFI-1883-TO-1988-4-1L-EFI-/261656897104?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cebf76650 Jack. Panko 2,480 Posted January 2, 2015 Yeah chris, your probably right. VDO cant go wrong. After all im running their gauges in the wagon, one of which is 40 years old lol. Thanks Jack. I might go see those guys in person. I want to ask them about some other stuff as well.
Panko 2,480 Posted January 2, 2015 I suspect my pump is going. I have a fuel surge issue when it gets under half a tank of fuel, and with the new fuel pressure gauge, i can see the pressure dropping off when i got around left hand bends (fuel running away from pump) but it dont think it should surge the way it does. 1 Outback Jack reacted to this
Thom 6,650 Posted January 2, 2015 My el has done it ever since I put 235's on it
Mr Polson 10,214 Posted January 2, 2015 My red wagon does it now that it's running the EFI setup. The actual Ghia never used to. I ran the pump dry a couple of times by mistake trying to start it, not realising I had no fuel. I mightve damaged mine from that. Ever ran yours dry? Although yours has like more than 300,000km on it yeah?
Thom 6,650 Posted January 2, 2015 360,000ks but the pump is 2 weeks old still does it
Panko 2,480 Posted January 3, 2015 I killed an old fuel pump from running it dry. But not this one. This pump has probably done about...120,000km. I put it in in 2008.
Mr Polson 10,214 Posted January 3, 2015 Out of curiosity, did it like just die, or were there warning signs?
Thom 6,650 Posted January 3, 2015 My old pump had been making a fucking big racket for the last 6 months before it gave out 2 weeks ago
Panko 2,480 Posted January 3, 2015 Yeah mine just buzzed for a few weeks until it went quiet and died.
Mr Polson 10,214 Posted January 7, 2015 So just a quick question on the in tank fuel pumps... All the ones on eBay and stuff (here) http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/261497139561?nav=WATCHING_ACTIVE have a filter type pickup thing on the end, and actually look somewhat different to mine. This is mine. Is it the wrong one? Or is mine missing bits? Or is it just design changes?
bear351c 10,270 Posted January 8, 2015 There should be a mesh filter bag before the pump, (pick up). Can't go wrong with VDO. Dirt and debris will kill a pump, Some manufacturers wont honour a warranty if you didn't take the tank out and flush it. If you've ever done it and collected the shite that comes out, you'll know what I mean. 3 XTREME KARTS XF, Mr Polson and Outback Jack reacted to this
Mr Polson 10,214 Posted January 8, 2015 Yeah thats what I thought. Never flushed a tank but this one should be somewhat alright as I totally drained it when swapping the pickup for a pump.
Panko 2,480 Posted January 9, 2015 its fecking annoying that the return line is lower in the tank than the pick up to the pump.
Mr Polson 10,214 Posted January 9, 2015 Is a bit daft aye Panko? Think I will be putting new fuel pumps in mine and a surge tank. Real sick of not being able to park in my driveway if I have half a tank or less :/ 1 Panko reacted to this
XF0747 69 Posted January 11, 2015 be wary of pumps on ebay guys have heard very bad stories of guys who have bought what they thought were genuine bosch 044's and they only lasted 3 months 3 Clevo120Y, steve mcqueen and Panko reacted to this
Panko 2,480 Posted January 16, 2015 i remember when i replaced the pump back in 2008, it actually took me ages to get one. i had to do a fair bit of running around to find one. Hopefully that isn't the case now.
Outback Jack 6,352 Posted January 17, 2015 Is it possible to move the fuel pump bracket lower? Then you could just use a longer bit of fuel line from the hard line to it. If you can get the fuel pump foam surround you could even mount it lower than the bracket and cable tie it to the longer line, letting it sit lower. With the filter on the end you shouldn't suck up any crap. VDO make good pumps as well. Jack. 1 Panko reacted to this
