Mr Polson 10,214 Posted May 26, 2014 Can it be done? Straight fit in or mods needed? I'd assume they have different plugs, but would you just have to cut the plugs out of a XD/E and join the wires to the XF ones?
gromet88 3,042 Posted May 26, 2014 there was a young fella here in adel who did it. ill try and find it somewhere
gromet88 3,042 Posted May 26, 2014 but yes, a bit of modding

Mr Polson 10,214 Posted May 26, 2014 I thought Brandon/mcfly done the whole dash? I just want the cluster.
gromet88 3,042 Posted May 26, 2014 you wont be able to do just the cluster. it wont fit in the xf mould. you will either need to graft the xde cluster hole into the xf dash, or change whole dash. the xde cluster is bigger then xf cluster. also the levers are different for the lights etc, as the xde have the headlight switch on the bottom right corner of the surround, where the xf has the paddles on the top sides, headlight namely being the top right. Mr Polson 10,214 Posted May 26, 2014 I found this in Google images when I was looking earlier Looks like a XDE cluster in a XF Ghia dash.If it fits in a Ghia dash it should fit in a GL dash. Also found this one in a GL dash 2 steve mcqueen and Banno reacted to this
gromet88 3,042 Posted May 26, 2014 wow, well im out. that would hve taken some work. hve never tried it or heard of someone doing it as they are bigger and thicker then the xf ones. good luck! 1 bear351c reacted to this

xdfairmont79 135 Posted May 27, 2014 yea clint did that i think, (n00bus) hes pretty good when it comes too that, that actually looks really cool. i might have to give it a try i have like 50,000 xd dashes and a few xf's hahaha 1 FOMOCOHO reacted to this
XFute-1JZsoarer 140 Posted May 29, 2014 From what I've found, you just need to use the mounting bracket along with the cluster. I can't vouch for it myself, but it has been done a few times that I've seen.
Mr Polson 10,214 Posted May 29, 2014 Went thread mining over on xFalc and found this from Noobus. Not a straight fit, needs some mods to the bottom of the housing to clear the fascia. 1 n00bus m@x1mus reacted to this
Mr Polson 10,214 Posted May 29, 2014 And this for the wiring. No but the wiring colours are like 99% the same, so you just cut the plug off and solder on the next one lining the colours up, make sure you test before you solder and heatshrink but incase somethings not right. steve mcqueen 1,796 Posted May 29, 2014 That looks pretty darn good eh. I would imagine it collecting alot of dust and what not with the perspex cluster face being exposed like that now. Would be hard to keep clean?
bear351c 10,270 Posted May 30, 2014 300% better than an XF dash. ...........let the flaming begin.
bear351c 10,270 Posted May 30, 2014 Looks like n00bus painted the needles with model paint, or similar. That adds weight to the needles and makes them read incorrectly. Having said that, it looks awesome.
Mr Polson 10,214 Posted May 30, 2014 300% better than an XF dash. ...........let the flaming begin. XF dash, or XF cluster? I like the XF dash, hate the stock cluster though. 1 XFute-1JZsoarer reacted to this

n00bus m@x1mus 465 Posted May 31, 2014 Yeah thats my handy work lol, works still to this day, but in the ute now, with the complete XE dash around it so i put it into a spare housing. It wasnt hard at all to do, your right about the dust factor steve, but all it needed was a quick blast with the air gun from under the fuse cover and it was good as gold again. Never had any trouble with the needles, i suspect that its a bit of a wives tale that one. The cluster illumination is about the only drama, as you need to shave it off to get it to fit. I broke mine down and fitted a neat strip of LEDs between the face plate and the gauge faces so it is sort of backlit like the XFs ones are, IE not shining onto the face of the cluster but shines up thru the gap around each gauge. Looks a tonne better and so much brighter. 3 steve mcqueen, bear351c and Mr Polson reacted to this
Mr Polson 10,214 Posted May 31, 2014 So all I need to do is find a XD/XE cluster (are they identical??), and some LEDs to light it. And something about the speedo is different isn't it?
n00bus m@x1mus 465 Posted May 31, 2014 Yes... the transducer is different from XD/E and XF onwards, you will need an early one. XD and XE S Pack clusters are the same except the fuel guage has a low warning bulb on it 1 Mr Polson reacted to this
n00bus m@x1mus 465 Posted May 31, 2014 While your doing homework on it, look into adopting an EB or ED manual cluster into it, ive never looked into it but i was talking to someone and they say the Eb/D cluster fits straight into an XG, so using the XG or even XH fascia cover one could effectively fit a great range of needle sweep clusters into an XF... providing you get the wiring sorted out, the mounting will be the easy part. Mr Polson 10,214 Posted May 31, 2014 I think I prefer the look of an XDE one to an EB/ED one, personally. XDE looks more old school. Also, not sure how you'd get the fuel gauge to work with an EBD cluster, as they went back to a float type sender, not like the capacitive type on the x series. 1 n00bus m@x1mus reacted to this
