Cleavage upgrade.

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I just did some more work to the clevo in my xd.

It's got 2v closed chamber heads with bigger valves, but only minor clean up of the ports, I fitted and dailed in a comp XE274h cam with con lifters, bitten end is 30tho over with ARP bolts, it's running an RPM air gap, 750dp mechanical Holley and an MSD dizzy.

Stage 2 shift kited c4 with 3000rpm stall and 3.45 LSD.

Just looking for opinions on this combo and possible HP output.

Also any idea what would be the best timming and jet sizes for the carb.

Cheers.

Just on the info given, i'd guess 400hp at the fly, limited by the stock ports. The cam isnt exactly wild either... my 302 has a Crow 270/280 and is still pretty tame. Still would be a lot of fun though, with those gears and converter, i reckon low 13s is on the cards.

Recommendations? I've installed an MSD  6AL programmable ignition and i feel that this is the single best upgrade you can do to a performance street car. Other than that, sounds like you've got a pretty fun combo there.

Would be a bit of a pain on the highway though. I'm guessing 3500 at 100ks, pretty bad on fuel and engine wear.

Let us know how close we are in our estimates?

Thanks mate, highway use and engine wear isn't a huge issue. It's lucky to get out once a month and just something fun to take to eastern creek. Thanks for the info and I will keep you posted. Hoping to get down the 1/4 early next month.

Jets? Depends on what's in there already... Primaries I'd go 68, Secondaries in a DP I reckon 72. Pure conjecture as i've no idea of how it's actually running, what exhaust it has, etc. My 302 likes 61-63s but it's a 600 Vac with annular primaries (need smaller jets). Timing? Clevos like about 40 total, but again that depends on how hot you run it, what fuel you're using, etc.

With my MSD, I run 35 at idle with about 45 total, but I'm running a MAP sensor with it to take out timing by about 15 deg under full load. It cruises beautifully and idles like a pussycat.

Let us know when you're going down the creek. I haven't been down there for yonks.

Got a windage sump? Clevo's starve for oil at the best of times, but, worse when going round corners.

Sounds like a good combo. I run 2,500 stally and 3.55 LSD, and it's tons o' fun. :D  :D :D  :D

^ way off.... i've seen this cam pull 430hp with AFD 2V heads on 98RON fuel, im betting around 400.

2v heads work well with these cams, even the iron ones.

i love how much cam technology has progressed in the aftermarket industries in the last 10 years, i remember when i was a teenager, a hyd tappet cam with 268 total duration would never see anywhere NEAR 400hp... now its an off the shelf grab n go.

I had a similar cam in a 302 clev too, bit tame for a 351, with the 2v cc heads. But the diff gears will make up for it.

With the diff gears and the c4, should see 2800rpm at highway speeds.

What has my predicted txt done!

Thanks for the info guys. The cam sure don't sound tame when it's idling.

We will see how it goes down the creek. Wanna get to the stret meet on the 9th of February.

Just guessing, I reckon around 350 neddies at the crank.  Still fun though.  Interested to know the actual output.

Im about here to

I run 2 engines with about the same and bigger cam then where talking here and making about the 290 320 at the tyres not been on the dyno slide rule numbers from a stopwatch times and no where near 400 going off mph and time slips

430 horse out of a stock stroke 351 even with alloys with a smallish mid size cam like that is at the vary top end of the scales and to not be aiming that high out of cast heads

Jetting id start at 75s front and back and go from there, my corty has 75s fronts and 80s i think in the rears in a 750 with about the same cam but the ute has more work and i run 72s in the front and 78s in the rears and a bigger engine every engine is diffrent but mines about what you have msd 750 pumpers single plain manifold good heads so on

If your not good with engines stick it on the rollers it will be money well spent

I'm running 72 primary's and 80 in the secondary. It's rich as shit at idle at the momant. I'd have no issues getting it right it i spent some time on it, I was just trying to avoid f@cking around if someone had this combo and had it set up already. Think ill screw the 70's I got at home into the primary and see where it gets me.

Last time out at the creek with the smaller cam I was running 14.1 all day. So we gotta start somewhere.

why would it matter what stroke it has to make hp? :S torque yes but not horsepower.

430hp was in the high end, well setup motor, dialed in cam, all top quality componentry etc etc, this motor definitely wasn't just slapped together, Dave at AFD has seen similar figures with that cam and his heads also :) that cams coming out of that motor now apparently anyway, just sold him my camtech hyd roller very curious to see how that goes!!! (if it pulls what it should pull, im buying another one lol)

as for MPH and time slips, unless your perfect you wont get anywhere near the slide rule.... weight, tyres etc all come into it as well.... btw if you're making 320hp at the tyres, thats at least 400hp at the crank.... most drivelines will see a 25% loss of power. especially ancient technology drivelines like ours....

agreed, stock cast heads would not make 430hp, should still crack close to 400hp i reckon.

either way, stick a nitrous plate on it and have some fun! :D

btw definitely agree, should see a big kick up the ass from the old cam to this one!

If the old girl does what you guys reckon, I'll be bloody happy. My XD is just abit of a play toy between work, kids and paying the mortgage. So it's nothing too serious, but keeps me entertained.

I appreciate all the input and advice. I will most defiantly process it all and put it to use. If any of you guys are Sydney based, I hope to be at the creek for the Febuary 9th Sunday street meet.
