The tyre clearance v's bump stop thread

Ideally, I would think you'd want the static height, so the UCA on a slight upwards angle - so the angle increases with spring compression.

And a static height, with the LCA as close to straight as possible.

 

That's how my XG ute is set up.

Unfortunately, at those parameters, ball-joints really need to be wedged as the angle is too severe,

and there's no factory suspension travel left.

 

There are wedge blocks (or wedge nuts) included with the different upper ball joint wedge kits, available out of the USA.

My lower arm is pointing upwards. It looks pretty level until you put a tape on it. If the car was 40mm higher and had the Shelby drop, it'd be pretty good (but 40mm too high, haha). Mind you the measurements were bad and there is a bit of guess work in picking the centre of the ball joint.

Man, those LCA are ugly. The ones he ended up with (http://www.cfcomponents.com.au/lca.html) look good though (a dust cover for the spherical would be nice, but it is in a long way).

 

Be nice what to know what "slightly longer" is with respect to the uprights, but it sounds like less of a drop is needed when compared to the stangs

Ride? quite good. Has been like this over 2 years now and balljoints are still tight.

 

Man seriously you need to put the bump stop plate back on, it is there for a reason. Look at the angle of the ball joint, ready to snap and is a ticking time bomb.

Ok so I'm guess the gap between my uca and bump stop is about 5 hours, I can only assume the bump stops are still with the previous owner!

Short answer - YES, you need clearance, or it will ride beyond horribly.

Depends if you feel like taking the bumpstop plates out to change the bump stops... or not.

I'd do a little experiment first. Measure the height of the guard as is, then remove the bump stop altogether and remeasure. If it's a significant drop you may need to change the springs as you will still have stuff all travel with shorter bump stops.

Depends on your spring rate but I'd want more, like 3-4cm
