The tyre clearance v's bump stop thread

Recommended Posts

At least they won't sag.... Nah, il modify the bump stop to give me back some travel.

What part number are the springs?

Amazing how it doesn't even look low, in the side on pics - even with no bumpstop clearance.

Yeah that will give you an inch, but will close to upper ball joint bind.

Need to work out a quick way for wedges

3 bolt ball joint wedge kits, are available from the USA.

Is anyone here running the wedges?

Running low profile tires on 17's will make the car look like it's lifted compared to a set of 19's.

My falcon does not look that low but I'm running the Shelby drop with modified upper ball joint mounts and trans tunnel enlarged to stop the tail shaft from hitting.

Notice the bump stop...me either.

Doesn't need it when it's not too low...BUT tbh the whole time I had this car DOWN it never had stops and never hit anything either.

Musta been lucky or just the fact it wasn't my daily when really down.

Cute,

That aint low, Do a UCA drop and lower it another inch at the front, Then your balljoint will have a bad time =P

But then, As posted in a pic a couple of pages ago, the balljoints can take a fair hiding hammering into the edges of the cup of the balljoint without snapping. Not that i'd like to test it.

That all depends on brand of ballpoint too, as seen in the ball joint thread there's a big difference in range of movement between brands

Crazy- I know you did the mods yourself but do you know which mustang kit ( the drop and wedges) would suit our x series or do we have to make it from scratch?

No, sorry. All the ones in the link above are 4 bolt units. We need 3 bolt.

And i've never seen anyone atcually running them either. IMO for the cost, you may as well lash out and buy tubular upper arms. Can kill 4 birds with 1 stone.

I did it all myself because i hate spending money. The walkthrough on how i did it is in the forum somwhere i think.

Two of the ones in the link I posted are three hole ones, they just all use the same generic 4 hole pic.

Do the tubular arms correct the ballpoint angle?

Thought I would add something different in here, I have 2 inch drop stubs and kings low springs. Although I dont have bump stop plates, you can see that the ball joint angle is still fine.

Do you have more pics of the stub axle setup, and the side-on ride height?

I like the drop axle but not a fan of the tie rod. I know it's all engineered and stuff but I'd still want to see some kind of solid spacer between the ball and drag link. To me, that extended ball just looks a bit too prone to breaking.

While I agree gerg, when I bought this kit I did a lot of reading and found it is very common to use tie rod ends like this on mustangs. The guys in the states have been using similar for a long time without issue. I've had them fitted now for a few years and all I can say is it is one of the better handling x series I've ever driven.
