mcfly94 169 Posted June 24, 2013 Got a recon converter that is standard c4 6. Put in a little tired trans and getting a new trans, going to flush the lines and trans cooler. Whats the best way to flush the converter?
gerg 10,871 Posted June 24, 2013 Buy a shitload of ATF (say 3 times the capacity of the box) and with the new box in, disconnect a cooler line and attach a piece of clear PVC hose on the side that pumps out. Start engine, run the hose into an oil drain container, and while it's pumping out, watch the colour of the fluid in the hose. Keep topping up the tranny and dont starve it of oil, ever. Once it starts to look like strawberry syrup instead of caramel it's clean. Another way which might be easier is to change the fluid multiple times until a sufficient amount is clean. Again you can use the cooler lines as a drain but as soon as it stops pumping, stop the engine. Refill and go again. You never get 100% of it out, it's always just "good enough". Either that or take it to a shop that does tranny flushes. There's an actual dedicated machine that does this. 1 robbie reacted to this
