Need help to connect wire to ICE ignition coil

Recommended Posts

Guys need to work out the best place to connect the wire to power the ICE ignition coil on my XB.

On the schematics there are 2 wires going to the coil, one is the resistance wire going back to the ignition switch, the other is brown wire with red trace that's coming from the starter solenoid.

I know the resistance wire is no good but what purpose was the Brown/Red wire from the starter solenoid for?

I was thinking of connecting a wire on the Green ignition wire to the coil, would that be a better choice?.

I'm not an expert, but that resistance wire is what drops the voltage for points to 10v ish,  i've seen it basically chopped where it's joined from the switch   and replaced with correct wire for 12v electronic ign.

the starter to coil is 12V only when cranking, it's bypasses the resistor to help starting . if you hooked to this for eg, it would fire up when cranking, but stall as there's no power except when in starting position.

look for a better answer or verify it with someone else.

Before the ICE ignition setup I had that resistance wire hooked up to the MSD Blaster 3 Coil. The workshop manual said it's a Pink wire, I was expecting the usual Pink colour not the Pink that almost looks Red so I assumed It was a standard ignition wire. Drove the XB like that for over 5000k's.. Ice ignition made me realize it's not the right wire, plus the rubbery insulation it had once I peeled back the loom tape.

That's what I thought too, just needed confirmation.

I've been tracing that wire but it's going right into the dash, hard to keep going unless I pull the dash to bits. Don't want to that.

I want to connect a new wire to a Green wire (thick) going towards a female plug which plugs into the turn signal/horn switch on the steering column and was hoping someone would confirm it's good enough spot to connect a new wire there.
