408WPN 34 Posted July 10 Hey Guy's What's your opinion on cutting out the highlighted area to fit a 14"K&N air cleaner. Will it necessarily effect the structural integrity of the bonnet, the above structural supports to the left & right seem to be the main supports
deankxf 20,694 Posted July 10 are you sure it needs much off it? BGDAV's one fits (see link below for more pics)  i'd probably be trying to panel bond or rivet something to it for reinforcing unless the scoop will act as some reinforcement if it's getting one?

408WPN 34 Posted July 10 The back cross member & X support structure seems the main support. Stopped myself from cutting into it yesterday, turned to custard they're pretty hard to replace over in NZ 2 deankxf and Slow250XC reacted to this
2redrovers 21,681 Posted July 11 I'd be inclined to cut and splice them to alter the angle they meet the rear edge. So you get the wider space between them but still have solid support. I don't know if that's an option within your skill set, it's just how I'd go about the problem. 1 dvfalcon reacted to this
408WPN 34 Posted July 11 Ummn my skill sets were outstanding today. First couple attempts & just thought I'd leave it. Few hour's later with some subtle encouragement from a colleague on messenger 1 2redrovers reacted to this
2redrovers 21,681 Posted July 11 You haven't taken out the upright portion of the ribs so there would still be some strength there, maybe a bit reduced on the one side. Just go round and deburr the edges so you don't run the risk of slicing yourself open later. If it shows any signs of fatigue down the road, just add a plate across the rear section so it can't bend in the middle.

Yeah was deburring this morning, time was short this afternoon though. It's differently made space for the air cleaner.. It's just so ever so slightly touching the front of the scoop now underneath when I shut the bonnet. Would you think that'd be putting upwards pressure on the scoop from underneath to make the body filler come away, surely they're fastened on by more than just body filler. Hahaha shows what I know, fuk all
2redrovers 21,681 Posted July 11 If it's "just" touching when you close it, then it's probably getting more than a touch while running. The vibration would crack the filler over time. Many ways to join a scoop, some better than others.
