    CLEVELAND ENGINE TALK

i bought a heap of parts from america to finish off the engine ,now just a waiting game until everything arrives, good thing is i made a friend over there who has a mountain of 400s and 429/460s,we video on messenger and he is dying for a set of 302c closed heads (lol),he finds aussie clevo stuff a real goldmine, and giving him the rundown on info about how we got the tooling from the states then started pouring our own clevo stuff was a real eye opener for him,he did not even no about the D1AE high nickel 400 block i had,he has gone on a rampage looking one in the states.amazing when you find someone on the other side of the world that is right into all the stuff you love yourself,we have already got an idea about loading his container full of $200 complete 460s and 400s as where he is there is a abundance of them,a once a year shipment should be plenty to muck around with and sell, well thats the idea at this stage ,from the info i have dug up so far its double the price of a container ATM,from what it used to be,and our dollar is poor as well, but will keep it on the backburner for the moment, probly one of the reasons its very hard to find a 460 engine latley.if the deal works out i would love a few 429s just for info sake, you no,usual strip and rebuild while photos and description.

you mean the valve stem or seats ? as it was they are untouched from new he reckons and still ok to use there is very little if any wobble from side to side, but the seats just needed a spruce up,being a 1973 or 74 engine its possible this is a unleaded engine ,i think they started using or introduced it in 1971 ?.

there is also good news on the heads,olm8 is machining them and cutting the seats to seal better,he did just 1 seat while i was there and the difference was incredible from what they were.

also i read last night that my sump needs a police/cobra jet oil pump and pick up,as a std one has the wrong angle to fit, there is about 10 million different pumps and pick ups for the big block ,sumps as well.

yes i can picture it,nice black painted block n heads with arrrrr first snag gerg clevo covers dont fit 460,anyway back to the pipe dream, yeah blue 4.9 sticker on r.cover and air cleaner, std 460 steel covers would work, get em blasted and i still have xd xe silver met paint from last time, hmmm, just the last 2 days i have been chatting on the phone with a guy from nth america buying stuff off him in 1 bundle cause its hard and expensive buying 460 stuff here now,all he ever talks about is how much he wants a set of closed chamber 2vs lol.ok i swap ya a set of 2v closed for a set of 429 cobra jet irons.

    CLEVELAND ENGINE TALK

wow now we are talking ,looks like that suits std 460 heads, cobra jet are a lot bigger than that im sure,i also learnt from reading heaps of stuff is 90% of the gun aftermarket manifolds only suit cobra jet and super cobra jet, blower manifolds ect,but that one is a good price with carbs.

hey these d3ve a2a irons get a good wrap on you tube and other forums ,just some patient work can really arc them up for factory head, the d3ve a2a is the first of the emission heads with a big bump on the exhaust which must be blended at least or removed as it has something to do with emissions,on the intake side they only need a clean up,but the exhaust is choked and needs some nice porting ,even most go the cobra jet exhaust gasket mark it out and start grinding, they are around 92 cc to 97cc and with a sealed power flat top gets you into the 10.1 zone with milling of avarage 30 thou to get zero deck, but the earlier DOVE AND other early cast irons have a closed chamber and an easy 10.5.1 is had but too much if anything these days, factory cobra jet irons are hard to come by even in the states, very interesting all this big block stuff.

yeah not really sure what to do with this one, althou its std bore at least it has something going for it,but a lot of work to make it usable but thats ok,im not working atm so hrs in the garage is what i like, the ozito sand blaster i bought does not do jack shit, maybe cause its only a small tank ,but when i first got it ,it stripped a xd engine bay in no time ? i think its all to do with the correct blasting media, and ya know what after i go to doctor im gunna go to bunnings or somewhere else and get some media to do the rest myself,i already paid the cnts $120 to blast a sump and a crank i reckon thats too much, well they said $60 is the minimum they charge, blasting media is about $30 at bunnings or autobarn but its too fat on the grit, you need something finer.

    CLEVELAND ENGINE TALK

hey is it ok to get them sand blasted cause they are gunna get milled anyway on the journals,or some sort of media ?

    2YAB AND 2YABC are 1968 to 1978 460 cranks.

    CLEVELAND ENGINE TALK

i will give the block a few more cleans ,then take it down to the machine shop and get it tanked and get ol m8 to sus it out it stands atm at 030 so the guy told me ,but i measured it up and looks std to me with some ware ,std bore is 4.360 and my readings flutuated between that and 4.370ish,came with no rods or pistons ,also 060 overbore is fine with many going 090 and 120 over.

doing plenty of reading ,and turns out the exhaust side of the 460 head is very poor flow, after 1972 ford re designed the head but still wasnt that good,my heads are 73 or 74 and are the larger chamber, gerg you were right they are very similar to a 2v cleveland head.

    CLEVELAND ENGINE TALK

by the numbers it could be anything from a 1971 to 1978 460,but with manifold heads n block matching looks like its a 73 or 74 460,there is 2 nice rusty cranks as well, maybe 1 of them could be a 429 i will check later.

    CLEVELAND ENGINE TALK

ahh ok im talking about the actual motor mounts, but yes a 460 will bolt in where a clevo or windsor fits, and even a aftermarket choice of pre fabbed headers and xy/xa 460 engine mounts are available off the shelf ,one thing i have noticed a lot of 460 xy mounts for sale on marketplace or e bay must have been the in thing at one point, pity no such exhaust for a 400 is available, mods are needed, been there done that.
  22. CHESTNUTXE

    CLEVELAND ENGINE TALK

yes these days a 429 is quite cool ,and with all the aftermarket gear available would shit on a stock 460,429/460 use the same rods ,just the piston is a bit taller to make up the difference, hence smaller stroke, back in the day nobody would throw money at a stock 429 ,cause the boss 429 and cobra jet was available in numbers, but nowadays most stroke a 460 to 545 or bigger, there is a whole new world out there of big block gear,as we only ever had the smaller cousins.
  23. CHESTNUTXE

    CLEVELAND ENGINE TALK

just remember the 429 came out before the 460 only a few years ,then it was binned and 460 was then only available, finding a 429 these days is getting hard but not impossible, most came out of f series trucks here witha few galaxies as well ect, also gerg what do you mean the engine mounts are the same as cleveland ? or do you mean clevo is the same as windsor which they are,but 460 are different, very similar to the 400 .

    CLEVELAND ENGINE TALK

im not sure what section to put this in but yesterday i scored a 460 ,its in pieces but heads block manifold is matching, and comes with some other stuff, not sure the vintage but looks like a typical 70s 460 with cast 4 barrel iron manifold,i got it cheap so when it turns up on thursday i will have gerg all over it with working out the codes, this has been my unicorn engine,i have never owned one, will be interesting.
