    CLEVELAND ENGINE TALK

Lets go right back to the late sixtys early 70,s and then 80,s with aussie clevo,s ,but when the clevo was born the end of the muscle car thing in america was just about over,by 1974 it was replaced with the 400 and m engines,so throw in any 2c worth with rumors or fact, from what i have read it was launched in 1970 perhaps even late 69,the canted valve arrangement was very successful and nascar said nope no canted valves ,that could be one of the reasons i have heard lately why the 351c only lasted about 4 years ,gerg chime on in.

    Flex Plate Q'

std is 164 on from xa to xe,whether 302 or 351c,fmx and c4 late is the same, only earlier c4 s like xy with 302w will be 157 and a case fill box,yes check your converter bolt pattern to make sure you get the correct one,you can still use a older case fill c4 in a xe ,just need a few mods to make it work, but std flexplate in a v8 xe is 164.
  4. z1 is oxford white,thats all i could find.

Clevo into XE heater hose route

good question,i always disconnect the fkr and block it off at the water pump, but cause your in melbourne its cold,up here dont need it,also depends on what year your xe is,becuase of the v8 thing in 82,meaning different positions of the pipes on the firewall,6cyls too,i did a late 84 xe once and different again.

    XD Instrument cluster into XE??

yes xd and xe is different, after pulling apart heaps of them and mis matching parts to make 1 good cluster, nothing worse when spending days on it,and then putting it in the car and all the screws and bits n pieces and the thing dont work properly,i remember doing my oil pressure switch cause the old one was reading back to front, and simply block off the vaccum line for the econoguage.

    CLEVELAND AIR CLEANERS

Lately i have had this urge for v8 air cleaners ,mainly to start a wall of lids with new and interesting usa stickers 460,429,ect,anyway today i scored a stash of xd xe clevo lids n bases and there is some differences between models lets investigate these first.

    Fairlane grille *HELP*

thats a weird one, note large single compliance plate that means its a 72 or xa style car, later xa in 73 started with the 2 smaller compliance plates, also orange rocker covers on a 351 is fuel saver version of the 351,very rare, most where in xb era.not sure about the grills,i would just put the correct one on,and to me it looks like a zf model car with zg bits ?

    XH DOOR TRIM TO XF

Does any one know if the later e series and xh door lock buttons can be converted onto a xf lock system,i had a look at the wreckers today and it seems a bit difficult, but maybe someone has done it,the snibber buttons have a red rod that goes down into the door ??? here is a picture of my dummy fit of an xh square lock button trim ,thats going onto a xf door.

    CLEVELAND ENGINE TALK

while reading about the t5 thread before,in rememberd i had an idea of putting a single rail behind this 472 c.i,a shop sells a big block alloy bell to suit top loader or single rail,as its not a race engine, its 100% stock,a 008 351c xc xd xe single rail should be fine imo.
  13. i did this once with the eb/xg t5 into a xe with mild 351c,i did use the rod shop bell,at the time cost $750 as i had plenty of coin to throw at it and didnt want to go down the path you did,but nice work ,i remember reading somewhere there is a t5 with 2.95 first gear, could be a eb v8 ?.

also you cant put a early crank in a 79 onwards block because it will hit the block, later 460 cranks are slightly smaller on the counterweight ,and later blocks from d9te have a little bit taller deck height and is the one to go for if building a stroker, also D6 truck conrods are the same strength as cobra jet rods and im lucky to have a set,and also have better bolts.

    CLEVELAND ENGINE TALK

yes it even has red flags on things you must do on re assembly ,there is a tiny hole in one of the inlet ports that must be plugged and bottom hole on timing cover goes into the water jacket and must use sealer.

i found a set of caps for the other block ,getting them next month,at least thats something and got them cheap so a line bore is not out of the question anymore, and it will give me another 460 to build or 429 ,im thinking of doing a nice 429 just for something different, rods are the same and pistons are cheap as chips from usa as most go for the 460 build, just some ideas at this stage.

    CLEVELAND ENGINE TALK

i took the block down to the machine shop, took the cam bearings and 1 piston to give him something to look at when honing the block,so this time next week we can start to put it together hopefully,i also bought a book on big block building ,should get deliverd soon.

    CLEVELAND ENGINE TALK

i bought a heap of parts from america to finish off the engine ,now just a waiting game until everything arrives, good thing is i made a friend over there who has a mountain of 400s and 429/460s,we video on messenger and he is dying for a set of 302c closed heads (lol),he finds aussie clevo stuff a real goldmine, and giving him the rundown on info about how we got the tooling from the states then started pouring our own clevo stuff was a real eye opener for him,he did not even no about the D1AE high nickel 400 block i had,he has gone on a rampage looking one in the states.amazing when you find someone on the other side of the world that is right into all the stuff you love yourself,we have already got an idea about loading his container full of $200 complete 460s and 400s as where he is there is a abundance of them,a once a year shipment should be plenty to muck around with and sell, well thats the idea at this stage ,from the info i have dug up so far its double the price of a container ATM,from what it used to be,and our dollar is poor as well, but will keep it on the backburner for the moment, probly one of the reasons its very hard to find a 460 engine latley.if the deal works out i would love a few 429s just for info sake, you no,usual strip and rebuild while photos and description.
