    What colour speedo gear?

its a red or purple came from auto cables in melbourne i think ,i asked for a 21 tooth but i didnt count it ,i just had a look on the rare spares website and they have a calcuator for ratio's tyres diff gears ect and with the green 21 tooth it should be spot on by the calcuator,i guess i should have checked it well out she comes again tomorrow.

    What colour speedo gear?

hmmmm i wish i new all this before,i might try what you said or try and get the factory light green one for 3.27,while on the subject i have a fmx here and it has a longer smaller pointed end gear on it ,does that mean its a different thread, like right and left handed ? because when i put the clevo in i need to change that sucker too !

    What colour speedo gear?

i dont no,its a low km car and all orig as far as i no ? weird how the the 20 tooth came out of there ,maybe thats why the speedo is still out a tad with the 21 tooth,it had a 2.77 drummy in there before and it was spot on in the speedo, when you said a green 21 tooth before thats what is says for factory 3.23 or 3.27 does it really matter what colour it is or any colour just the tooth count ?

    What colour speedo gear?

the gearbox is a borgwarner 35 std auto in a 82 xe ,you mean the gear inside the box that drives the driven gear ? If its a 7 tooth should i get maybe a 23 or higher ?

    What colour speedo gear?

ok i fitted it but i think its still not correct,i might have to go for a 22 tooth i put a purple c40z-17271-a i am sure its 21 tooth but let me check ? it seems to be about 8 to 10 k's out.I checked the old one and its a 20 tooth in a borg warner 35 auto but most charts say 18 0r 19 teeth for 2.77,the new part number came up as 21 tooth,so i guess i need maybe a 22 ? im using snowflakes and 225 -60-15 tyres with 3.27 gears.

    Borgwarner LSD rebuild

yeah this mob have been in the game for 30 years and im gunna drop the car off to get it all soughted out by the pro's ,he said for $650 you get all new bearings,LSD pulled apart and checked ? and 2nd hand set of what ever gears came out,and correctly shimmed and right ware pattern on the gears so i guess just get it done.

    XE FUEL CELL UPGRADE

The crossflow thats still in there sounds pretty mean i must say ,it has a deep bellow at idle with straight thru 2 x1/4 single ,but wait untill i drop the clevo in and sought this exhaust thing out.

    Borgwarner LSD rebuild

thanks,i rang the local diff shop and he said did the open centre have the vibration and i said no,then he said check your pressures in the rear tyres make sure they are the same ,because you have a LSD now that sounds like a common complaint to him,so off i go to the servo and yep the back left was down a bit on the other one ,so after fixing the pressure it didnt vibrate at all !

    Borgwarner LSD rebuild

so is there a way to get to the correct pre load on the carrier bearings ? im gunna have to pull it all out again and get all new wheel and carrier bearings,on take off with the way it still is there is a slight vibration that goes away once speed picks up ,could this be incorrect lining up of the gears ?

    XE FUEL CELL UPGRADE

The whole thing to me is the sound,my last xe had a single exhaust and it just didnt sound the way a v8 should, thats why im keen to get it right this time and upgrade the fuel system at the same time,or just dump the pipes at the diff.

    Valve cover 'spacer plates'

The only covers i had to modify was a set of boss style alloy covers, made by holley in the usa, many others had copys of these weiand ect,,,they had oil drippers inside the cover that needed to be ground down to fit yella terra rollers.

    XE FUEL CELL UPGRADE

are you saying 2 pipes off 2 mufflers or 2 pipes that come off 1 bigger muffler ?,not much space there but maybe could fit 2 x 2inch pipes ? or maybe 2 x1/4.

    XE FUEL CELL UPGRADE

funny that because ford back in the day did so many tests on the new plastic fuel tanks and even dropped them off the top of 2 story buildings to show how strong they were, the main problem with doing a dual exhaust on a xe -xf is the tank and the watts linkage on the passenger side ,so most just go for a short dumped twin at the mufflers ,well thats what i plan to do,and move the fuel line so the exhaust doesnt heat it up,cheers.

    XE FUEL CELL UPGRADE

yep ok,but on the factory v8 ,i think the fuel line go's towards the front left chassis and then into the engine bay to mate with the clevo pump, just mine still has the 6 in it at the moment so just wondering what is the go.cheers

    Snowflake rims - Identification.

    XE FUEL CELL UPGRADE

The main reason is i want to run a dual exhaust and when i was under the car doing the diff i noticed the fuel line is exactly where the other muffler should be so im going to have to upgrade the fuel system or line to fit the dual exhaust.

    Borgwarner LSD rebuild

well its not cornering, but i would say carrier bearings, its definatly quieter then the other centre but there is a slight vibration when taking off that wasnt there before ? i didnt set the gear mesh just took a guess it would be ok swapping the crown gear over, should i just try wheel bearings first or just get the whole lot done ?
  22. CHESTNUTXE

    Borgwarner LSD rebuild

ok i took it for a drive and its only marginally quieter ,oooops maybe its the wheel bearings, but i have the LSD centre in there now,so i guess start with wheel bearings and then if that doesnt work i suppose its all comin out again ! :angry:i used a medium sized crow bar to lever the centres out ,wasnt to hard just a pain in the arse if your under the car, cheers.

    Borgwarner LSD rebuild

well it took about 10 mins of hitting each side with a rubber mallett to get it in then i did the caps up so it will have a bit of load, probly about the same as the LSD one i took out of the EF housing, now i no what those 2 small holes are ,ok im gunna fill it up soon, cheers

    Borgwarner LSD rebuild

well i dont no what a diff spreader is but i got the old open centre out without to much fuss and i found it quite a bit heavier than the lsd unit ?,broke a shim trying to get it in,then used another shim identical size and tried a different method to fit it in and it worked much better ,the last centre had noisy bearings so i used the new lsd complete unit with its bearings, gunna fill it up soon ,put the brakes back on and take for a drive,i really hope its better because im getting sick of living under the car LOL.

    Borgwarner LSD rebuild

Today i pulled out a 3.27 open centre and swapped the crown gear on to a LSD out of a 96 LTD i picked up for a good price,i have never done any diff work before but it all went down ok,i will refill with oil tomorrow and test drive it,im hoping it will not make any noise as the old one did.
