  1. do you really need a 9" these days if you make less then 600hp? the BW 4 pinion have proven to be quite reliable, unless you make tons of torque and by that i mean more than 400ci making 1.3hp per cube methinks the 4 pinion BW would be a) more economical B) chew less power c) quieter

The reason I'll going a 9inch is just the available parts are more common then the BW. I was going to go down the 4pin BW but they were getting quite hard to come by.

  2. No mate, if you have an external cooler they don't need to be hooked up to the radiator at all, although you can run them through both if you want to.

If you aren't running the cooler lines through the radiator, you will not need to block off the holes in the rediator where the cooler lines used to go, nothing will leak.

    Thanks Xd helpful as always

  3. Just brought a 9" diff and just wondering what is the process of matching a tailshaft? I'm running a c4 trans and a borgy diff at the moment. Can I use the tailshaft in it now or have to get one made or from another falcon?

  4. I just put a 9" in my XD, i had to change the uni which was a cross breed bloody thing, 1/2 borgy 1/2 9". I can find the part number for you if needed.

I also had to change the diff to chassis rubber brake line. One was at 90° and one was at 45° to the diff.

I also had to buy new brake lines, the breather tube on my diff was in a different spot to the barg warner so the lines were different lengths, if your diff came with brake lines you might be ok.

Is it a disc brake diff or drum?

Does it have mounts for the handbrake cable or are they on your leaf spring mounts?

    Edit** U bolts were interchangeable.

I've just brought a bare housing with axles. No brake lines nothing like that, so just starting from scratch.

  5. Hey guys,

I got the ram type power steering in my falcon, which I don't like the feel of. What are my options for steering? I have thought about manual steering but just seeming what other power steering options are out there. I do know of the Xf power steering but don't want to cut into the chassis rail.

  6. I have read the contrary, ie roller blocks being thinner in the webbing and generally in the casting, and can crack between the cam tunnel and the bottom of cyls 3 & 7. This is on forums from the states where they push them with nitrous, ect but as a general rule, 400 hp n/a is the limit.

I have read all that too, I think it depends on the tune, latest rule of thumb is 500rwhp is the limit of the block and 6500rpm.

One of the turbo tuning pages on Facebook here in Oz is putting out more than 500rwhp on stock blocks with blow through set ups.

I think if you were serious about HP you would splash out a few $$ to get a dart block.

Yea I won't be pushing that kind of power, so I will be in the safe.

  7.

So what I did was buy timing cover, fuel pump eccentric, timing chain, water pump and fuel pump all to suit the older Windsor.

Mate your setup is neat, exactly what I want to do. So just buy parts as you would for an early Windsor.

The gilmor drives have gone, and have purchased a nice V belt set up, I just couldn't get it to stop throwing the belt high up and worried too much.

Yeah I just got all the bits. I did find this on eBay AU for a little more.

The extra $700 is worth it for the manifold, timing cover, water pump etc.

Yea I have seen that. That's what got me thinking about a roller cam engine.

I'm a fan of the roller motor, easy to get parts for etc.

The only issue for me in that motor is that it's likely to have the E7 heads which are very limited in performance, but if you are just looking for a reliable cruiser that can still rip a skid it would be fine.

The yanks can usually get 260-270hp out of a stock 5.0 which a carb and tuning.

The roller motors are a bit better then the flat tap I've heard. Yep that's all I'm after a reliable cruiser with a skid or two.
