Ok, end up taking the crank to the machinist said those holes were strange but said wont be an issue. Crank getting a grind and balancing done.
Just glad there's no need for a replacement.

Then it's time for a stroker crank

Looks like a Brinnel hardness test gone wrong, as Thom said, and someone didn't use sleeves over the rod bolts when installing the pistons. (Small chatter marks). The crank should be OK if it was in a running engine, it would have failed by now for sure. Just need to make sure there are no sharp edges around the dents, use a 5 or 6 mm drill bit BY HAND, and slower chamfer the 'holes' then linish the journals with some emery tape etc.

I've jumped the gun a bit, already bought a set of pistons to suit. Most stroker kits sell with .030 size pistons I need .020 size ones so I'll need to buy in bits.

I was doing a closer inspection on the crankshaft and I've noticed 6 small unusual holes on the journals. This from a late Cleveland block, is this something they did at the factory or from a previous engine owner and what would be the point of this?
The journals are all standard size.

that is definatly an x file, maybe something was dropped on it or slightly dented the crank and someone did a small drill to smooth it out ? dont think its going to affect a std engine, just for a talking point DJ used to use a tiny drill bit on his forged pistons if they developed a crack so it would not go any further ,just goes to show how much of a budget the team was on in the early days.

Could be an improperly done brinnel (hardness) test

Be sure to get the correct fittings for the case , they are a straight NPS thread , NOT NPT

I have a 1975 date coded C10 transmission and factory torque converter, which was purchased as a good runner -
I bought it 12mths ago for my V8 XF SVO ute project, but have decided to go a different route, so was going to sell it.

    It cost me $1,100.
If you're interested, let me know.

Stay well away from TCI , They are junk . I've had to repair 4 TCI C6's that guys here have bought.
Better to have yours built , then you know what you have

Their valvebodies are rubbish, many have a 2-3 flare as a standard feature

You were right to question that, upon further investigation I've found out it is not legal to have a GPS speedo in Australia.

"A speedometer that relies solely on GPS will not be able to meet ADR 18 and therefore will not be legal in Australia for a vehicle with ADR 18 on the conformity plate."

ADR 18 came in 2006 so I'm not quite sure if it applies to cars built from 2006 or applies to all cars no matter what year.

In the end it's up to the individual if they wan't to install a GPS speedo, I'm sure many have done mods that isn't exactly legal.

Electricity takes the path of least resistance.

Those LED globes must've had a high resistance from brake to earth connection,
and a lower resistance, from brake to tail light connection.

If the globe is slightly undersize, and doesn't contact the lamp holder socket earth properly, it'll do the same.

that's interesting, never seen that problem before
the blinker LEDs often need a different "electronic" flasher can otherwise you get a fast flash rate
never thought about them in the front of an XB (parker/indicator) but can see the benefit being brighter (if they worked)
there's probably someone like sparkydave who'd be able to explain why they didn't work, but the BIN is an easy answer to many questions lol.

RM351 got a reaction from deankxf in Bad Earth Issues?
Well, I did solve the issue and it was a simple one.
I replaced all the globes with led ones except the dash lights and replaced the turn signal relay to suit the led's.

I know that some people have issues with the led brake/park globes either they have a single filament base or they need to be turned around to work properly.
I have the twin filament base one and though no issues in working, I found out it was the cause of the faulty earth of the problem. Once I replaced them with standard globes the issue was gone.
Wish I thought of it in the first place, would've saved me a lot of grief. 😠

Bought four of these globes off eBay and tried all four of them and they still caused the same problem.
Maybe they don't work as a park/brake globe or maybe these ones are just shit. In the bin they went.
