I had one in my ute. I just stuck the aerial under the dash pad. Always worked perfectly fine, in fact it was always 100% accurate.
But I swapped it out for a hard wired unit for engineering as the GPS unit wasn't legal.

I not long ago had to swap out the old XF tank for XG, this is a per curser to a EFI swap later on. Also I had to get it in before the space cab mod, as it will not be removable afterwards.
I did have the problem of over pressurization, was a bit weird to see the amount of fuel that can be forced through the main jets, lol..
This is how I have overcome the problem, for the time it takes to fit the EFI motor & front loom..
Fuel regulator is set to 3.5psi,  return line feeds excess back to the tank

what part of the brake hoses are you planning on keeping?
the XH will be metric thread and the XF imperial on the brake line nuts . try to decide early and you can have the parts ready to go.
there's an adapter available for the XF hard line to XG(i assume XH same?) flexi hose to T piece on the diff.  i haven't used that, i had the brake lines on the diff remade or modified to have XF nuts put back on the ends that go into the t piece. .if you had brake flaring skill you could change the nut on the hard line in the tunnel even but i've just taken a hand full of bits into a brake joint and said make this fit that..

My manual got soaked in all the rain when we lost a corner of the shed. I haven't gotten around to getting a new one yet.

But I can film the process when I do it. I have a few week off over Christmas when I will tackle it, and swapping the diffs.

yep, push out the centre part of the plastic bit holding it to the window lifting rail (i use a phillips screw driver and whack the end of the handle with palm of hand and then look for the center part behind the reinforcing bar of the door.. 1 in 10 go missing in my experience)
then the outer part of that clip you push from the other side while holding the glass in the opening or it will just drop into the door hole and scratch on the way down.

tilt the glass on a 45 degree down in the front and it will just come out.
reversal for refit but you push the center of the clip in from the door trim side with the HANDLE of the screw driver and it will give a THUNK as it clips in. (assuming you got the outer clip in the right spot in the glass hole.

good opportunity to slide the baily channel up into the door frame better also.

you'll need the window wound about half way down to access those clips.

motoSycho reacted to fotz in XF AU Windsor conversion
    Hi All

Just an update, sorry have been very busy and had a few things on so I havent done any work on the car :(

    Diff:
I have an EF XR6 (3.45 ratio) diff there ready to go. I was able to get the brake lines from the EFT as well. So when ready I will try to fit this to the car somehow. Handbrake cable, I will worry about this later, but thinking of getting one custom made.

    Tailshaft:
Have tracked an EF XR6 tailshaft - Auto. Well see if this fits ok :)

    Gearbox:
I have gone with the CRS bellhousing. I have a 5cyl T5 from an EL, and CRS have confirmed this will bolt up fine.
With the E-series, in comparison to a 4.0L motor, the Windsor is mounted more forward in the engine bay - hence why the v8 box in the eseries has a longer input shaft.
In the X series, the windsor mounts in the same spot as the 4.1 crossflow, which is why the bellhousing CRS has works. If I had a v8 box with the longer input shaft (from e-series), I am going to run into problems fitting it, with any bell housing in the XF. I would need to look at getting the input shaft shortened to match the 6cyl. Similarly, using the bellhousing from the e-series would also run into problems.

    Clutch\Flywheel
I am planning to use Malwood for this. Also looking at doing the hydraulic clutch upgrade they offer, which I mentioned in my earlier post. This is a pretty cool setup. I will need to remove the pedal box to fit it. Needs a bit of trimming to get it to work, but very small change.

    Wiring Harness:
CRS modified the AU harness for me, and its ready to fit to the car, so I just need to time to hook it all up :)

    Fuel Tank:
I have an EFI tank ready to fit. Just need to update the pump and run a new fuel line. I will use the existing line for the return, and remove the existing return line.

    Extractors:
Have sourced AU Extractors from an Xr8 ute that were barely used. I think this is a good start. Theyll probably need to be modified, but I really cant find something on the market that is guaranteed to fit. I think if I went with GT40 heads id be ok, but because I have GT40P heads, the extractors ill be harder to come by.

So my right now, my next plan is to:
    1) Mount new tank
    2) Install new pump
    3) install flywheel, clutch and bellhousing on motor
    4) Drop in motor
    5) Install harness and ECU
    6) J3 Chip
    7) Extractors...
    8) Test start it and see how it goes. If I get it working ok, then Ill do gearbox and diff next.

Will keep you all posted. Plannning to start working on it again soon!

Thanks for everones advice / guidance so far :)

Hey man, I've done about 300 ks so far, all over the beautiful roads we have out here at Bathurst 😜
Lots of twisty, windy and potholed roads on my way to work. I duck across past Tarana to get to work at Oberon.

So much better with the new shocks in it. Handles a lot better and I'm not slamming into the chassis/bumpstops everytime I run over a pebble.

So all in all pretty happy with them, especially for the price.

I think the bloke I bought it off got ripped bad. I'll have to cut the floor of that fibreglass area out to get to the tank. Guy who originally put that in must have been convinced he would never have to change a fuel pump!

Oh it is rusted out!  I'll grab some photos tomorrow.
So I paid $600 for it. I'm happy with that for the diff, fuel tank etc. that I can use. I'll sell off the bits that are usable and then scrap the shell.

Guy I bought it off, paid $2999 for it last September!

i'm pretty sure only one pipe or 2 needed mods on those factory pipes into X series..
actually that was into XP that i'm thinking of.. might not be an issue on XF .. soon find out, exhaust mob with some fabrication skills could do it easy...(aka probably not midas etc)

Measured centre of tyre to centre of tyre, I'm allowed 1601mm on the front, and 1608mm (with an E series diff) on the rear. The rears will be close, maybe a touch over on the fronts. I might have to,,,,, borrow some narrower rims and tyres for the inspection.

But the flares, bonnets scoops, seats etc., no issue. A few changes to make to the dash, change the speedo from a GPS unit to a wired in job. That's easy, I can put a SAAS speedo in there. I'll have to have the idiot lights labelled, and the shift pattern needs to be on the shift knob!

Other than that, I'll transfer everything from the Fairlane over, all the emissions stuff. I might try and get the OEM extractors and exhaust in as well so that I am covered for the emissions and sound test. I can swap it out for better afterwards. Brake test will be fine as I'll be upgrading the braking with the disc diff and I'll give the fronts some love as well.

this guy covered the differences in extractors/heads (into sigma.. which may be interesting for fitment to XA-XG also?)
also ways to fix some of the issues with off the shelf pipes

If you can find a set for a reasonable price without the covid tax and barn dust allowance, yeah sure, no harm in keeping them aside for when you're ready, maybe get them freshened up while you're there. Just a heads-up, they do need their own extractors as the flange is different due to the spark plugs being at a different angle. You can use the normal ones apparently but it's a shit job to do the plugs

Oh Lord no, it probably had a turbo or blower attached to it.

I'd be well happy with 300hp in the old girl, she wouldn't know what hit her! Planning to get the motor in, get it engineered and collect some bits and pull it out later in the year for a freshen up and warming over.

Worth tracking down a pair of GT40P heads now?
