Brake boosters and Master cylinder Compatibility.
bear351c replied to hendrixhc's topic in Steering, Suspension and Brakes
Booster will have to be pulled apart, if you want to get it chromed. ( If you haven't done one before, "dont try this at home" ! ) Sounds like the diaphragm inside is leaking. If you pump the brakes, does the engine change idle?? -
Yeah, love my FMX. Neck snapping gear changes, but, FOOKINELL they are heavy.!!! C4 or C6, tested and proven on the dragstrip. Powerglides are good too, but, only 2 noises come out the back end.

Reckon my old TF corty used to have them plastic nut caps. Didn't know XD's had them too. Maybe a call to the Cortina forum....?? Maybe these fit........? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/like/271379594438?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=107

Exactly.^^^^^ -
If it says "oil resistant" it'll do the job. Hydraulic oil, power steer, trans cooler..... Fuel line will do the job, for a short time only. (I always carry half a metre of 5/16" fuel line and 2 hose clamps when on holidays.) Remember, carbies only run at 5-8 psi, EFI can run at over 100 psi, vacuum hose is designed to resist collapsing, not pressure, and always be good to your Mum..

Could try ACL or a speed shop...... http://www.aclperformance.com.au/prod_g_copper.htm -

Nah, old bush mechanics trick. You can get copper head gaskets made, whatever thickness you need, may bring down the comp ratio. Just saves pulling the engine out............ -
Dude, put hose clamps on them..........seriously.

$20 a bottle............. Cheaper to use 2 head gaskets. -
If the rubber isn't oil resistant, it will swell up and bulge, better off getting trans cooler hose. Braided hose will help stop the swelling of the rubber, but it will still deteriorate inside and the rubber goo will pass through your trans.

Fookin' LOVE that !!!

Wicked ! Got a build thread, would like to see it. SA boy as well, we're slowly taking over................

Agreed +1. I always fit a trans cooler to any automatic I buy, even a shitbox 4 cyl. Have got one on my FMX, just a 300mm square one from Auto parts shop. Think it was $99 bux. Stuck it in front of rad, no probs. Heat kills trannies, (and batteries), so any one is a good one.

You sure it's cheaper ?? Any car from XA to XE, including Fairlane and LTD with a Clevo will fit. Diff, Trans and 351/302 will bolt straight in. (LTD and Fairlane have a longer tailshaft, they used the station wagon wheel base platform.) Buy an old XB or ZG with complete running gear and a Fooked body. Having said all that, I've seen an XD with a 302W in it, sounded cool !! ReVhEaD has done the 5 litre conversion, I believe. That right Pete.??

Not 100% sure, but seem to recall that the early 347 had a problem with the gudgeon pin bore, being too close to the oil ring groove. I believe it was fixed b y ACL or Federal Mogul or some such. (New design of piston.)

Increased side skirt wear, as well.
-
No. In order to be a 'stroker' the crankshaft has to be 'stroked'. The offset of the journals is increased or decreased, from the centre of the crank.
-
Point is, 14 1/2 second quarter mile times are nothing these days, you could build a daily drive engine that shits on a 'stock' XY GT. Clean up the 2V heads, roller cam and rockers, balance everything. Will spin to 5 grand all day everyday. (....and, yes, the Hoey had a mechanical cam and lifters.)
-
I thought the Clevo fit, with a slight massage of the firewall, behind the right hand side rocker cover. ?
-
GTHO III only ran 14.4 down the dragstrip. Build it to them specs.

Love this guy ^^^^

Windsor ??? 4V's are harder to find, as they had limited production. Sort of rare, but if they are modified to accept adjustable rockers etc, may annoy the purists. If the heads came from the factory with the guide plates and rocker gear, then worth more. Don't think many people would spend the folding stuff on cast iron heads these days. GT40 alloys and stuff are readily available, and a third the weight. Yanks loved the Windsor,(Man'O'War blocks etc) Clevo's were short lived in the US. We Aussies loved the Clevo's, but eventually went back to the Windsors in XR8's etc. As the boys have said, date stamps and pics would help.
