The eBay radiators are fine if you do your research and sizing. I've bought 8 now, even for the big block AMG I had. The stock one from AMG was $2k, and adrad one was $800, second hand one was $500, new one from eBay, $180. Had that in there 2 years, not an issue. Do your research and you'll be fine.

As for the XD-XF, the eBay ones won't bolt straight into the brackets, no but it's easily modified depending on the radiator you go with.

Or buy a trickle charger. Most people have them on their 'when the weather is fine' cars. A good one will decrease the battery and charge it in a normal cycle as if it was on the road in normal conditions

gromet88 got a reaction from bear351c in Is it possible to make an xd ute a floor shift from column?
Yeah I went through that phase, and I even converted a few floor shift manuals to bench seat because it was handy when all I had on the road was one car at a time. Even came in handy on a few nights in the city, back in those days... ahem... you know, helping a damsel or damsels in distress... and I have thought about getting another one but I like having my left elbow on something a bit too much

Something to keep in mind: If the ute has a bench seat you'd likely have to put a set of buckets in to make it useable. Depending on which state you're in the swap requires a mod plate (because you're changing seating capacity), and in some of those states P-platers can't drive a mod-plated car, even for something as minor as a seat swap.

I’ve had that many run ins with Mr Plod over them, been defected 4 times over them because no mr plod believes that any car came out with tail lights that dark from factory. Even had one accuse me of colouring in the photo on the front of the glovebox manual with a black texta.

I’ve had too many FCs and FDs to put a number on them but I don’t think there has been a time in the last 20-25 years that I haven’t at least had one. I’ll always have one. They are just way too cool not to! Especially with those tail lights.

hey that’s cool, good to know he’s restoring it! Is he doing anything to do it or keeping it stock?

I’ve had a couple that had one, and my favourite one that I had also had a factory one because I remember how annoying it was to get parts for.

I am always amazed to find more Cartiers and always happy to even just to see them, I don’t need to buy them

correct. The earlier Cartier's still had the hand pull boot popper but the last of the Cartier's got an electric one as I guess they were preparing to start the FD. It was a dipping the toe in the pool I guess you could call it. Some FCs still had the electric sunroof but it was a ‘no cost option’ from memory.

Sadly not all. Some were 302 and even there were a few 6s but they are rarest of all as 358(ish) from memory were 351. The only things with Cartier’s that you could not option was the colours and the interiors. You had a choice of 2 colours, a port wine burgundy or a special gold blend, and the interior you only had 1 choice. But with the purchase, you received all the special badging and special embroidery, and you also, wait for it, as a ‘gift’, received a purse, an umbrella, and a limited edition Cartier Watch. You could also ‘add’ to the options of a briefcase, perfume, socks and a tie.

On the topic though, have you got any photos of the whole car? Is the whole car for sale or just the motor?

I have a few more photos but it keeps telling me they are too big to add, but you can see what I mean. Apart from the VCR, everything else has the Ford badge on it, including the DVD/VCR remote.

Dave will most likely be able to answer this one the quickest but I’ll ask as general anyway 😂,

Does anyone know of a factory option in the AUs for a VCR in the boot along with a DVD player with an entertainment screen in the cabin, apparently fitted with games as well?

I have picked up a system out of a AU Fairmont that has the factory GPS set up, but it came with all of the above as well. Now before we all jump the guns, it ALL has Ford badging on it, and not just some Ebay stickers. I have all the wiring that goes with it.

All I wanted was the GPS set up but it all came together.

For the life of me, I have never heard of anything like it, excluding limos obviously, that may have had all those options but this was in a AU Fairmont sedan.

I forgot to get photos before I left last week but I’ll post some next week when I get home, but someone might know in the meantime what the go is.

The plan is if I get time during the Christmas break I’ll be installing it into the Silver Elephant.

Nope, all these items were pretty quickly either sold or disposed of. I’ve tried for years to get the specific notes on the items and their special runs but no one can tell me what they actually looked like so to speak and what their model numbers etc were so it’s really just a hidden secret

They were only a run in the FCs, from 1979 through to late 1980. I have seen some 81 plated ones but I suspect they were actually made a year or so before and sat at the factory awaiting the order. I would think they made them in one hit but maybe with a few blank spots in case someone wanted something odd. The exact number so to speak, is very sketchy but the registered number is 400. So many have been wrecked over the years and there were actually a few that didn’t receive the special option code on the vin plate for some reason so it’s very hard to actually pin point the actual number. Ford did some weird stuff back then.

The Cartier wasn’t actually ‘officially’ a model, only a package
