Think I found my issue! But....

It's a bastard to do,I've done the drivers side door. All i can say is ..Patience young grasshopper..... If ya lose ya shit, you'll never get it out. Make sure the rods feed into the holders from the same side they came out is my biggest tip, if not it's a PITA. Jack.

    T5 onto 2L Pinto?

I'd just leave the 4L on the front of the T5 and be done with it..... hehe... Good excuse for an Upgrade. Jack.

    Rear end shudder

I know it sounds stupid, but check for a vaccuum leak, I spent a fortune on new brakes, master cylinder and brake booster, still the same. Low speed like when ya slowly pull away and it gives a squeal yeah? like the disc pads are sticking.... It's cheap to check yaself before ya go throwing money at it like an idiot (points to self). Jack.

    Gauges fogging up

I saw a cool fix for this, drill a hole in the back of the guage, put a hose barb in, chuck on some vaccuum hose, run to ya heater, and put a fitting in your plastic cowling on ya heater box, and hook her up. (be careful not to drill into something you shouldn't). Then you can demist ya guages if they fog up. Newer guages are completely sealed and don't fog. Jack.

    My Clevo build - Thoughts

There should be 2 numbers and a dash between em on the gear , divide the second number into the first and thats ya gear ratio. 42-15 = 42 divided by 15 = 2.8 ratio You probably know that, but someone will find that handy. It will be faster than the Polo.... just ram it before ya drag.... hehehe. Best of luck mate. Jack.

ahhhhh, lovely Bear. I haven't seen a pre crossy in years. Last one was in my brothers XB pano, his first car. Jack.

    My Clevo build - Thoughts

Thats a nice Motor combo ya got ando, you got it sussed. Diff gears, I'd be using something a lil taller with a top loader for ya rallye drive. Otherwise she be screaming and drinking like a fish if it has street gearing.... 4.11. I found the 3.45 in my ute good as a combo for both, but I got a 5th gear. So in yours, somewhere around 2.73 or low 3's. Should keep ya ... cough, cough...." fuel economy "resonable....... hehe Jack.

    Ford headlights vs aftermarket

Me and me mate were comparing them the other day and came to the conclusion that the aftermarket ones don't use silver to coat the reflective surfaced in the headlight like that used to. If you look closely at an aftermarket headlight and a genuine Ford one, the aftermarket reflector is poor quality. More silver that highly reflective finish. There is also a difference in the glass as stated above and the 'focus' of the beam is not as good as a result. Oh, by the way mate... ya ute looks flash after the paint job..... lovely. Jack.

To spray, or not to spray? Using MLS headgasket...

Must be one of the change over to XH motors Soarer, my Outback utes are both 95 XG utes and I have V belt on the alternator not serpentine belt. Interesting. Jack.

1995 XG Falcon Ute Brake Rebuild /Upgrade.

Unfortunately Kiwi, they are Exchange units and they wouldn't let me pay extra to keep the old ones, they go back to be remanufactured. Brakes have been replaced........ Everything, just gotta fine tune em and should be apples. Cheers for the replys. Jack.
  21. Heya guys, need some help. Managed to scrape some coin together and looking at getting all my brakes done after me foot heals up. Will be changing out all 4 calipers and maybe the brake booster if needed. I am wondering, was there a factory XF/XG model with twin piston Calipers that will bolt straight up as a slight upgrade on the front? Would be good while I have to do them anyway. Rears I will will buy new calipers for, but just standards. Also, is there someone in SW WA who does brakes AND knows their XG's who wants a job? I want it done properly though, no bullshit artists or rip off pricks. Only members or trusted close friends with reputable buisnesses, no mates of mates.... been there done that. She's only got the stock motor aand stuff, so no need to go silly with racing brakes. Just would like them all to work properly. Ute has T2 slotted disks all round and bendix Advance pads on her. I have taken it to 2 places now and been charged for them to be worse than when I took them in. Drag everytime I reverse or take off at low speed. Maybe dragging while driving. Used to work fine, until the workshop from hell got to them. One mechanic did say last time, the right rear wheel wouldn't free spin till he loosened the caliper bolt.... but I dunno what causes that. I know a place in Myaree that do good work, well they did 20 years ago.... lol ....., but it's 200km away, which I will drive if thats the only option. I'm a pensioner so can't afford to get shafted on this job again. Already had to fix a dodgy suspension job etc that was done by a workshop. I could buy the parts from Perth Brake Parts for a decent price and do it in the garage here, but I need a tool for the rear calipers to wind em in and out and I haven't done rears before, so a bit nervous. Pretty much I just don't want to stuff it up, because it's my daily. Cheers fellas. Jack.

    Lost wire

What type of coil did you replace the original with? If you are trying a round oil filled type to replace the factory one..... won't work and ya ruined ya plug. Green with red is usually for the positive side of the coil. Thats justa guess for now. Pictures help heaps. load one up. Jack.

    Ba everything into Xf

BCM...... ECU...... they all taste like chicken to me.................... but ya get my drift. =) . That parts car will come in very handy. Jack.

    Ba everything into Xf

Heya Ben =) , you will have the triggers for the central locking from the ECU, all you need is motors in the doors for them to trigger the locks and to run the central locking wiring to the doors. Basically, you need the whole harness from the BA everything from the back of the cab , forward. Hope that helps. Jack.

How to check a diff's condition?

Heya Polson, Mate, I would be checking the trueness of the axle housings if they were true or not after a shunt like that. The LSD's can't really be checked externally besides checking for play and bad noises, everything happens in the centre and it and the axles should come out and be checked for wear. I would replace the axle bearings and re-shim the centre before it went in if you want it nice and tight. Sorry, but there is really not an easy way to see if it's in good condition from the outside. Jack.
