Panko's Mk1 Escort (Round 2)
Panko and one other reacted to deankxf for a post in a topic
it's quite amazing how the metho works, the way we initially found out there was water in the tank i just remembered.. i thought it must have had a stuck needle and seat in the carby, but when i removed the top, i could see the 2 levels of fuel/water in the bowl. we added a litre, but it wasn't enough for the shit ton of water in the tank, so then we drained it, tipped off the fuel from the water, fixed the issue.. put the fuel back in with another metho bottle to be sure.. was good forever. (doubt the fuel filter even got changed.. would have been interesting to look at it though) -

Anyway i took her for a spin an she was bogging down on take off so turned the screw in once & made no difference so turned it out twice & got it much better then turned it back a qtr more & she feels really good now not hesitating & bogging down on takeoff. So what have i learnt today? Dont be a fkn idiot & go out spending money on things first before fully checking everthing first & have a break & start fresh the nxt day with a clear head haha Sent from my SM-A520F using Tapatalk -

1 pointI tried tipping some of the fuel i syphoned out the other day, into a jar yesterday and let it sit for the day. Couldnt see water or separation, but too many factors could have prevented that... I might not have syphoned from the bottom of the tank in the first place, or i might not have tipped fuel from the jerry can into the car, that contained water, so couldnt see separation. So its still a little guess work, but given the results of today, im thinking it is moisture, or at least contaminated fuel. IF it still doesnt clear in the next tank of fuel, ill go back to square one, and drain my tank, replace fuel lines, perhaps pull the fuel pump down and make sure its all good too.

Well the metho appears to be working, or helping at least. I put about a litre into the tank last night, and let it settle over night. i know ideally i should have drained the tank, but I didnt. Anyway, this morning the car was running like crap initially. running on 3 cylinders, pinging, and very down on power. after about a 5 minute drive along a 60km/h road, it cleared up and came good, and has been good all day. It still has a slight miss at low cruising rpm when the throttle is only slightly open to maintain speed, mostly noticeable at 60km/h in top gear, which is at around 2000rpm. Ill keep driving it until this tank of fuel is all but gone, and see what happens next time, see if i can flush it out with this tank. -

1 pointI’ve had that many run ins with Mr Plod over them, been defected 4 times over them because no mr plod believes that any car came out with tail lights that dark from factory. Even had one accuse me of colouring in the photo on the front of the glovebox manual with a black texta.

1 pointHe said he is restoring it, not sure if he is modifying it or not but id be happy with it either way. He sent me these 2 pics before when i sent him a pic of the progress i had made with the FC wheels i bought off him Sent from my SM-A520F using Tapatalk

1 pointI’ve had too many FCs and FDs to put a number on them but I don’t think there has been a time in the last 20-25 years that I haven’t at least had one. I’ll always have one. They are just way too cool not to! Especially with those tail lights. hey that’s cool, good to know he’s restoring it! Is he doing anything to do it or keeping it stock?

1 pointI’ve had a couple that had one, and my favourite one that I had also had a factory one because I remember how annoying it was to get parts for. I am always amazed to find more Cartiers and always happy to even just to see them, I don’t need to buy them
-
1 pointJust about to swap parts over & stuck a fine blade screw driver on my screw which i did yesterday but didn't seem to do anything which is what made me think i had lost it & now the screw is back again hahahahahahahahahaha i must have been having a shit day yesterday. What a waste of bloody time money & effort. Oh well ill keep this other thermoquad as a spare or maybe sell it later on Sent from my SM-A520F using Tapatalk

buddy you cant go past a quickfuel 450 d/p or a 465 holley vacuum ,i tried and tested so many carbs on my crossflow,on aussiespeed 4 barrel intake, just buy a new one in the box. -
1 pointIf that's the case Bear, I would theorise that with a spreadbore, the secondaries opening on an auto would give less of a hesitiation compared to a manual, particularly if it's a double pumper. If you mean that auto 4 barrel XBGTs got a spreadbore, well that would be a different kettle of fish again. I personally don't know the intricacies of which model got what, but the Autolite (later Motorcraft) 4350 spreadbore carby had its own pattern that wasn't compatible with any other manifold/carby combination. I would love to have a play with a Holley spreadbore pumper and sort it. People rubbish them but I reckon you could get one really cracking. Sent from my CPH1607 using Tapatalk

1 pointI wouldn't....... I have a tendancy to elaborate the truth. Shiftwork brain and Alcohol don't help. Generally speaking, the Spreadbore was used on Automatic vehicles, probably 'cos the slushbox didn't move as fast as a stick shift.

0 pointsYeah i go past the cops all the time, i do get nervous though, this Monday i went down a back st & did a detour to avoid a speed camera on duke st & ballarat rd in Braybrook (which i got done for in the past) & turned left & by the time i got nxt to the shell servo i noticed a silver vf in my rear view fly up behind me, im thinking wtf is this, turned left onto Ballarat rd & the vf turned too....HWP. The lights at Ballarat rd & duke st were red & i know the RH turning lane onto duke st always goes first so got in that lane, the cop stayed in the far left lane & continued on down Ballarat rd toward Maidstone
